gmorning Real Reality, Really
Why is know-it-all used as a defamatory term?

Should it not be an aspirational ideal?

I don't know it all, but would like to. Being described as someone who knows it all can only be taken by me as complimentary.

I have answers, maybe ones you are looking for.

But my questions are those that I doubt you have answers to.

Am I a know-it-all?

One day, I hope.

I just figure I'll add what I'm collecting this time to the rest of what I know. chuckle

i suggest that you may have been convinced of the theory of reincarnation.

neither i, nor any of my past life selves, can honestly agree or disagree with this idea.

Because, eventually you will gain enough knowledge to see that it is IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW-IT-ALL, after that point you will understand why its used in a defamatory manner

This should also answer your other question.

I may have been. I was convinced of it at the age of 2-3. Anon

i agree, there is a tipping point when a certain level of understanding results in acceptance of the likely possibility that total understanding is unlikely.

yet there remains the possibility, however unlikely, that such a level of utter understanding is possible, however unlikely.

given the required status of higher-level understanding needed to appreciate this (possible) scenario the use of 'know-it-all' would not only be inappropriate to be used as a negative accusation, but if it seemed appropriate would practically reverential.

i have a lovely bot.

Friend, we have neoconservatism and their false-flag inspired "patriotism" to thank for the defamation of intellectualism. Wouldn't want to seem "elite" or anything... The Stalinists did this in the USSR and the Maoists in China too. Totalitarianism--they loves em some dumb ass folks. Oh, I mean "grass roots". DUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
