Or you could arrive at the figures doing a head count of the unemployed
people you know personally, and the people they know, and so on.

It's a pretty good indicator. Even of people you know who have jobs, looks at the hours they work. I know some who only have 16 hours a
week! Years ago I worked at Books A Thousand, er "Million".
Everybody worked about 38 hours a week.
I went to visit some who have worked there for years and years.
The average now work between 20-24 hours a week and are supplemented by "underemployment" benefits.

Whatever the real number is it is certainly a heck of a lot worse than they say, has to be at least 20%.

Hard to have a single income for a family these days too, may have to get a second job and all ready work a lot.

The true results of ones labor after the tax shakedowns, bail outs, leeches, etc...

There is a simple way for me to juggle them unemployment figures for that everyone ones in a way will be right in their estimate. Consider everyone getting a gov check a gov employee. If a burger flipper is a manufacturing worker the same as a lathe operator (use to be a lot of them) as I've heard then why not?

So probably in good times, they real employment is also not 4-6%, but 10-20%
