If you were in that officer's shoes you would have shot it too -- what was he supposed to do, allow himself to be mauled?

The dog owner was irresponsible for not having him on a leash and not obeying the officer's commands to restrain the dog.

The only thing I care about is that this officer went home safely to his family that night. Good shoot.

I also hope that the domestic situation nearby got sorted out okay. Funny how everybody is crying about a dead dog, yet nobody seems to care about the woman who was getting slapped around . Shows are priorities are all screwed up.

You're an idiot. I hope all your belonging are stolen by the TSA next time you go to the airport and your family is molested especially your children. I hope the next time the police are called for a cat in a tree they kick in your door and shoot your grandmother. Then I will say something stupid like I am glad the officer went home safely to his family that night. and Good shoot if it ricochets and hits you in the mouth,

Send that cop back to the Queen's poppy fields, and give the local dog catcher his job.

Maybe cop basic training should start at the dog pound?

Maybe cop cars should have one of these in the trunk:

I'm happy to donate mine if they put my house on the "do not kill the basset hounds" list.

Seriously though. There were two cops there(at least). One couldn't wrangle the dog while the other checked the address?

Bottom Line:

Don't ever call the cops or engage in any form of conversation. If you're pulled over keep your mouth shut and just hand over your paper work. You don't have to talk to them at all...And spit on the ground every time you see one.

Someone here stated it correctly.....GERMANY REALLY WON THE WAR.

AN OFF-DUTY police officer shot and killed a pit bull that attacked him on a residential Brooklyn street Wednesday afternoon, police sources said.

A 911 call was made at 5:45 p.m. for a dog attack on 30th St. between Fourth and Fifth Aves. in Greenwood Heights, just a half block from Green-Wood Cemetery, fire and police sources said.

The dog, which was with its owner at the time, charged at the officer and chomped him on the knee, the sources said.

The officer then pulled out his service weapon and fired the fatal shot at the canine, sources said.

No people were injured in the shooting.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken in stable condition to nearby Lutheran Medical Center to be treated for the bite wound.

Being an ex fire fighter, have dealt with many, many dogs; never had to shoot one yet. If you go uninvited onto property, you have to expect dogs barking, and running at you. Seems to me that all they care about is officer safety, what about the rest of us. They are paid well to take some risks, again, what if ff's didnt want to approach a fire, because it was dangerous? Dogs do not need to be on leashes on your own property, and the ones that are kept on them tend to become pretty nasty. And where did you get the info that "some woman was being slapped around"?

Worse yet was the cop who shot a dog on a farm for similar excuses while investigating a minor traffic issue last week. Quarter mile long driveway in a rural area. Gees a dog ran up to his car barking. Can u imagine that??? Blam.

Fire Fighters are the best in my book. Years ago i noticed a guy laying on the side of the road at 2 am. I stopped to help. The guy was covered in blood, I repeatedly called 911 before anyone showed up. First to show was the fire department. Then the cops, who treated me like I was the perpetrator. They could care less about the guy in the road. They frisked me and made me write a report in the dark, then followed me nearly home... They guy was helicoptered out of the scene. Heard later he sustained 26 self inflicted knife wounds..If it was just cops on the scene the guy would have died.

I'm sick of these assholes.
