I got a ticket in the mail from one of these f*cking cameras - I was going a bit too fast in a speed zone - not a red light infraction.

I think they should be used only in areas where there have been more than normal traffic accidents. Other than that, we don't need machines watching people.

They've got cameras all up and down I-64 here. The pretty black globe kind that allegedly can see what brand of cig you are smoking at 70 MPH. I'm sure they could just time you from cam to cam to figure your speed.

I was part of an effort to get rid of the cameras in our city. The cameras were actually up for less then a year.

Our group got it on the ballot and they were voted out. When we got the issue on the ballot, it wasn't to actually get rid of the cameras. It was written to change the city code so that, for a ticket from a camera to be valid, a police officer would have to be present and witness the infraction. They had eight cameras up and only three cars on a shift.

Municipalities are under contractual OBLIGATION to fulfill daily quotas on tickets given out. These cameras are not for safety purposes. I have read stories in the past that these cameras actually increase traffic accidents.
