Removing Particleboard Glued to the Floor!
I have a sheet of particle-board stuck to the concrete with very strong adhesive and I need to remove it. A 17 pound digging bar only chips it up a bit. Any (helpful) suggestions? Tissue

If it is outside try soaking it in gasoline. Might just dissolve the adhesive. Avoid smoking while doing it. In fact it was a very bad idea to start with but may still work.

chuckle I like playing with gasoline as well as the next girl, (there is nothing as satisfying as that *whomph!* when starting burn piles) but it is inside and it may not be the best of plans.

I may try just soaking the board with water to loosen up the glue bonding the chips, but I'm a thinking that will take some time.

water.

Watch it go "poof"

You could score it with a circular saw, just set the depth conservatively.

keep it soaked in water for a few days. it will fall apart. then scrape away with a scaling chisel. u may have to get the rest off with a floor sander. just be careful not to sand the concrete finish to look different than the rest. i would discourage the gasoline, it may cause the concrete to chip up with the board

he suggests leaving it in place if its so hard to get up.
then pour floor leveler over and proceed with the floor U want to put down.

it sounds like its not moldy if U cant get it up...
he says leave it.

kerosene might loosen the glue, sharpen the end of a spade ! use that to scrape/lift, then prob need a floor sander or a belt sander to finish. :)

good luck, Heartflowers

If you have only put water on it... Maybe try some acetone. It stinks like High Hell, and you would need to ventilate well. But it might help?

"Lest we be 'terrified by our adversaries,' it is well to remember that Satan’s power is not inherent but permitted (Romans 13:1). It is not unlimited, but controlled (Job 1:12; 2:6). It is not invincible, but broken (Luke 11:21-11). It is not assured of success, but is surely doomed "(Revelation 20:2-3)

Water will just make a mess. Best bet is an electric jack hammer with a flat wide chisle on it. Use it at a shallow angle and it will kick the stuff off.

yeah i agree. but most homeowners don't have jack hammers and wouldn't get the angle right thus chipping up the concrete.

Methylene chloride or acetone, you can always use your nail polish remover if you have some at home (acetone)

so are we talking about a 4'x8' sheet? that's a lot of acetone and acetone is actually more flammable than gasoline. be careful with acetone, don't get it on your skin, and definately don't use it indoors.

Let it soak awhile and you should be able to pull the board up. Clean glue mess with some alcohol like isopropyl alcohol or vodka. As soon as you put water on it it will probably harden again so use lots of alcohol and throw away rags to clean up glue

You can rent one. It works on damn near any flooring attached to concrete.

Yea no fire and ventilate well. Or close off area because a fan will evaporate the solvent very fast
