I don't think I'm ignorant about history really.

The histories about Muhammed and his life come from long after his death.

The earliest histories about his life (still written long after his death by 70 years or more roughly) were short and vague, and eventually lost as well, while references were made to these earlier histories by later histories.

As time went on, more and more details continued to be added, which is a clear indication of forgery and invention.

Centuries later these tales were collected in collections of hadiths.

How the hadiths work is that they say "someone told someone told someone told someone that the prophet said such and such" this chain or narrators is how the stories begin. If the names are invented, or the stories are invented, or if even 1 person in the chain is dishonest or a liar then the whole story can be made up trash, and it most likely is since it comes from so long after the original events.

In any case, even within those stories, Muhammed is fighting at times.

I was mainly commenting about how far back modern leaders stay from the battlefield.
