That's like these home security services that can look inside your home to monitor it. Hubs (he's not like me, he's EZPass man) wanted to get Infinity home security. He was so psyched about it .. had it all figured out ... couldn't wait.

I had to point out that if they can see inside your home in an emergency, they could see inside the home when I'm getting dressed and whatnot in order for him to realize what he was asking for.

Every time I see that commercial I sigh. They actually believe that people would be willing to put this little black box on their car as a test run? (Of course they will!)

I agree with what the article says about braking. What if some idiots pull out in front of you, it doesn't mean you are a bad driver, but they are going to construe it as such.

Then, instead of it just being a little black box that collects data, it will turn out to be a new little black box that you fit on to your bumper (maybe both front and back!) and it sends data and either video or images to see if the braking was your fault.

If you get on the New Jersey Turnpike at one exit and get off n miles later and they figure you were going over like 75 (I can't figure out the threshold yet based on the two or three people who got ticketed - they were flying) you get a ticket in the mail.

And that's just with the turnpike ticket, nevermind a black box or an EZPass, lol.

People will get these things and then suddenly their premiums will triple once the terms change.

So when you are looking for lower car insurance premiums you just want to be lumped into a statistical group - a woman, married, age over 45, you had maybe two accidents but you now drive more carefully - you get the premium based on the severity and the payout incurred due to the two accidents. If cars were totalled, your premiums will skyrocket, if fender benders they will go up.

The snapshot thing is actually a good idea as it records how you are currently driving, that you don't go over a certain speed, how long you brake before coming to a stop (stop sign or stop light)...it gives the underwriters a personal "snapshot" of how you drive now, instead of throwing you in a one size fits all statistical slot.

But, would I have it in my car? No, not for me or my husband, but I would think about it for our children when they get to driving age so that their premiums would be lower than a normal teenage premium.
