JERUSALEM, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Civil Administration confirmed Thursday morning that a mosque in the northern West Bank Palestinian village of Burka was set alight overnight.

Officials said that unknown vandals had also sprayed anti- Islamic graffiti on the walls, including "War" and "Mitzpe Yitzhar " referring to an illegal outpost nearby that authorities dismantled in the early morning, according to Army Radio.

Israel Police Spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told Xinhua Thursday morning that forensic units were en route to the scene of the apparent arson, but had "difficulty" entering the village, which is located near Ramallah.

He did not detail what caused the delay, although several local media outlets reported that residents stoned security forces trying to reach the mosque.
