A Russian nuclear-powered attack submarine armed with long-range cruise missiles operated undetected in the Gulf of Mexico for several weeks and its travel in strategic U.S. waters was only confirmed after it left the region, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

It is only the second time since 2009 that a Russian attack submarine has patrolled so close to U.S. shores.

The stealth underwater incursion in the Gulf took place at the same time Russian strategic bombers made incursions into restricted U.S. airspace near Alaska and California in June and July, and highlights a growing military assertiveness by Moscow.

The submarine patrol also exposed what U.S. officials said were deficiencies in U.S. anti-submarine warfare capabilities—forces that are facing cuts under the Obama administration’s plan to reduce defense spending by $487 billion over the next 10 years.

Good god, read the original article, if this isn't a classic case of a reporter on the Pentagon pay role, I dunno what is.

Ohh the horror! We are going to cut back on the scheduled GROWTH of the military budget by like 500 billion over 10 years or something like that. Read what I said, I said the GROWTH, they are only cutting the projected Growth not the actual budget.

But yet even though millions are out of work, and local, state, and federal governments are facing huge deficits, the military industrial complex is doing it's best to scare the shit outa people into the hopes that congress and the Pres will renege on their promise to scale back growth.

And they do this by having reporters and writers on their payroll dribble up nonsense like this.

The fact is Russian subs have always been sailing in waters around America, and we do the same to them. What else is new?

We move our weapons closer to them and they move theirs closer to us.
Strategic weapons systems upgrade and with some like China, etc. greatly increased theirs. And then there is the high level verbal threats. It's Cold War 2. And what most people forget is Cold War 1 at time almost became World War 3.
