It grows wild in Illinois, Iowa and into Nebraska along I 80. It is left over from WWII when the government planted it. They have spent millions trying to eradicate it because of the "drug problem" it represents.

It grows along fence rows in corn fields, along railroad tracks and in ditches. It is even called ditch weed. people would harvest it at one time to mix with real weed as a filler. You could smoke that shit until the cows come home and not get the slightest buzz. It has 0 potential as a drug. It has huge ass seeds and little red worms in it. If you used 100 tons of it and made that into a drop of hash oil it would not get you high.

Beautiful sight, north I29 crossing into iowa.

Misleading headline. You forgot the word "industrial". Rntsgikm

Still interesting though.
It's redundant. Hemp and Marijuana are two different things.

Nonetheless, a lot of people don't seem to know the difference between hemp and pot.

I agree with Cimbrian ... CHANGE THE THREAD TITLE to include the word "industrial". You will be helping to EDUCATE a lot of people.

RE: Senators introduce bill to exclude hemp from controlled substance list
President Obama's store sells hemp from Communist China while hemp farming in America remains criminalized

While America's economy is suffering staggering losses in jobs and debt, the Obama administration is creating jobs for Chinese workers by selling hemp scarves on its website -- even while industrialized hemp remains illegal for U.S. farmers to grow!

The "Monique Pean" scarf runs $95 on BarackObama.com (http://store.barackobama.com/monique-pean.html), and is described as:

Designed by Monique Pean. Circle scarf made of 45% certified organic cotton / 55% hemp, measures 42'' L X 21'' W. Made in the USA.

Here's a screen shot of the item, in case they try to remove it from their store: http://www.naturalnews.com/gallery/artic...Scarf.j...

It may be "made in the USA," but the hemp it uses is imported from nations like China because under the Obama administration, industrial hemp remains illegal to grow in the USA.

The hemp hypocrisy

Thanks to Obama, anyone who tries to grow hemp will be raided at gunpoint by U.S. federal agents, prosecuted for felony crimes and thrown in prison.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2012 LawFuel.com - Law Newswire -- Historic Senate Bill Promises Economic Opportunity by Removing Restrictions on Industrial Hemp Farming in the United States

The following is released by Vote Hemp:

Yesterday Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Rand Paul (R-KY), Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced S. 3501, the Senate companion bill to H.R. 1831, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011. If passed, the bill would remove federal restrictions on the cultivation of industrial hemp, the non-drug oilseed and fiber varieties of Cannabis. The language of the bill mirrors that of H.R. 1831 which was introduced in the House this session. The full text of the bill, its status and a list of co-sponsors can be found at: http://votehemp.com/legislation .

"Introducing this bill is the first step toward a common sense policy on hemp that helps create American jobs," says Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR). "It is vital that all advocates for industrial hemp redouble their efforts to win support in Congress if we are going to reestablish this economically important crop."

To date, seventeen states have passed pro-hemp legislation, and ten states (Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Vermont and West Virginia) have removed barriers to its production or research. However, despite state authorization to grow hemp, farmers in these states still risk raids by federal agents, prison time and property forfeiture if they plant the crop, due to the failure of federal policy to distinguish non-drug oilseed and fiber varieties of Cannabis (i.e., industrial hemp) from psychoactive drug varieties.

Paul, Comer push for industrial hemp in Kentucky

Sen. Rand Paul and Agriculture Commissioner James Comer pushed Thursday for industrial hemp production in Kentucky, announcing the reformation of a long idle commission that will press to lift federal restrictions on the plant that once was a major cash crop.

The relative newcomers to Kentucky politics are among a growing number of state leaders who have been openly promoting hemp, once a taboo subject in the Bible-belt state.

"We think it can be a great crop for Kentucky," Paul said at a news conference before the Kentucky Farm Bureau's annual country ham breakfast that brings together some of the biggest names in state politics, including Gov. Steve Beshear and U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

Paul, talking to reporters in a hemp shirt imported from Canada, is sponsoring legislation in the U.S. Senate that would lift the federal restrictions. Comer, who was elected agriculture commissioner last year, ran on the promise that he would press to allow Kentucky farmers to grow hemp.

Theirs is a stand that many political leaders shun because of fears that voters might somehow leap to the conclusion that they're also pro-marijuana.
