gmorning Sleep Deprivation
Mind over matter...literally it would seem http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/1690

However I'm interested in the hallucinogenic effects, I've had the odd night where sleep either wasn't an option or I didn't readily get enough so personally I have never been to the state of seeing 'objects' in my peripheral vision which either weren't there or tricking of the mind.
Has anyone intentionally done this either out of curiosity or just to see what the 'trip' would be like?

Sure. It was called bootcamp. Six weeks of no sleep makes you a very docile obedient person. chuckle

But the worst was a mission I was in Mostar in Bosnia. Three days, no sleep, 115 degree heat, full body armor, stuck inside a small, cramped dirty house with no ac and only intermittent electricity, searching through so much shit it'd make a hardcore hoarder proud.

I didn't have many visual hallucinations, but I definitely wasn't earth bound either...

RE: Sleep Deprivation
That's interesting.... sleep deprivation makes for a docile person.

Our society has is sleep deprived.
(The average person gets 6 hours of sleep and those energy drinks and energy Shots don't help)
People are workin longer hours and sleepin less.

Maybe that's what's wrong with us...

We literally need some rest so we can wake up.

Three days solid, just very short power naps, no more than 10-15 mins at a time. Screwed my head up big time. Two words.....

Dungeon Siege....... Blink

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

RE: Sleep Deprivation
I have chronic long-term insomnia. Most nights I'm lucky for 3 hours, some nights none at all. Thankfully some nights I get 8 or else I'd be insane.

You definitely have an altered reality after a long period of sleeplessness, like you are not really yourself at all. All motor skills are affected as well as concentration levels.

"An Australian study reported that 17 hours of sleep deprivation causes impaired performance levels comparable to those found in people who have blood alcohol levels of 0.10%, a level that defines intoxication in many US states."

You definitely feel drunk...but you're too exhausted to run around naked with a lampshade on your head.

It wasn't intentional but I stayed awake for three days straight.

I did start hearing voices,
I couldn't make out the words,
it was sporadic.

At one point, I also caught glimpses
of what appeared to be people down
a hallway but they were never there
when I walked down to check.

It's less a problem with the sleep deprivation itself it's more a problem with what you take to make you not sleep. Caffeine is typical (though people use other drugs) and is a stimulant. Take enough of it and you might start seeing talking purple dragons having sex with national monuments.
