The school he is in REFUSES to move him to gifted classes, and they refuse to let him bump up to a higher grade. All of this because he acts out. He acts out because he is bored with his classes. Instead, they want him tested for ADD/ADHD and Aspurger's. Essentially, they want to drug him up so he wont be an issue. My parents had him tested privately to see if their was any validity in the school's claims. The Dr. they took him to said he doesn't have ADD or ADHD or aspurgers, that he is probably just very bored in school, and to move him to a gifted program where he can be challenged. Today my family tells me that he came home with his finger purple and swollen from P.E. class, where the teacher refused to let him see a nurse because 1.) He's been to the nurse for stomach aches, which they accused him of faking (wtf?) 2.) Too many kids had already gone to see the nurse that day (WTF!?). after an x-ray, the Dr says his finger may be fractured at the growth plate. This is what now goes on in the public school system. Teachers aren't trained to recognize when children are above the curve. They are trained to belittle, and recommend meds to keep everyone at the same level. My family has already decided to pull him out of school, and he will be home schooled next year.

ADD ADHD doesn't mean dumb.
both mean the kid has more of a challenge.
Look into a skill not pills group. He may have a hearing issue that can cause some of the acting out. Also, Feingold diet may help if he's hyperactive

There are many resources out there that can help.

Above all, avoid drugging him if at all possible. Some very smart can't focus without drugs, but once on them, even if you could have learned to focus without, you won't be able to get off them.

i never said they meant dumb. I fully understand this. The issue is that he has been tested for all 3 and they said he was fine. The same thing happened to me when i was younger (though I wouldnt doubt the ADD on my part chuckle
