unsure Solar Watch: 12 X Flares and 139 M Flares so far, starting 7/27/11
This thread is the place for myself and any other suntards to discuss flares, CMEs, or anything related to current solar activity..

here are a few links that go with this thread, they will be referred to a lot, and there are many more..

the old favorite..

http://solarham.com/

and..

http://spaceweather.com/

http://helioviewer.org/

http://www.lmsal.com/solarsoft/last_events/

we have seen a correlation between the higher level of magnetosphere and ionospheric activity caused by the sun, to an increasing EQ activity, at least and especially during this solar cycle..

The global d absorption shows ionospheric disturbances, and it lights up immediately during and just after a flare. We see the strength of the flare by looking at the Xray flux. sometimes a flare (and possibly cme combo) will cause the Isphere to become charged for days especially at the poles, during a polar cap absorption event. This is a time of instability and the Isphere becomes more reactive during this condition..

CMEs also cause Isphere disturbance but are mostly seen in the Magnetosphere and this we see by watching the Bz go positive and negative and NICT shows simulations of how the Msphere is currently reacting. as Rager said, it takes around 2-4 days for the CME to reach us and it may be accompanying a flare or could come from a broken filament or just out of the corona randomly it appears..

Either of these layers around Earth being magnetized/disturbed/charged can and will affect the crust which is made of metals mostly, which react to magnetism and electricity causing the plates to be less stable and lending to a higher risk of something moving in the Magma, and letting a potential energy become a kinetic one, the EQ..

anyone who wants to debate any of this is welcome to post here, that's mainly what this thread is for..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's hope or not isn't the question, there is only the road..

RE: Solar Watch: 1 M Flare so far, starting 7/27/11
First M flare for a long time just came up today..

solarham (aka solacycle24) website today showing..

M-Class Flare: An M1.1 Solar Flare took place at 16:07 UTC Wednesday and was centered around Sunspot 1260 which now has a BETA-Gamma magnetic configuration. Click HERE for a still image captured by the GOES SXI.

Solar Update: Solar activity is increasing with numerous C-Class flares and an M1.1 Solar Flare around Sunspot 1260 on Wednesday. A third fair sized Sunspot is trailing 1261 and now rotating into view on the eastern limb. These groups are each the size of several planet earths across. A few other small sunspot regions are forming at various locations on the sun, including one very high in latitude in the southern hemisphere. Continue to monitor the X-Ray Flux for further flare activity.

Here's a direct link to the Xray flux chart from the Goes satellite. Watch the red line in the top graph shoot up into the M or X, then look out for accompanying CMEs, it's fun:)

Cool!! Thanks for posting! Heartflowers

I like to know about these flares b/c they do seem to give me a bit of warning about the quakes.

I am in Christchurch! Scfsbpjl

nice to meet you too.. I know a lot about this topic and have a long list of links for upcoming events. We have been working on solar activity affecting EQ activity, and I plan to keep that going over here..

Yes, I posted threads about the New Zealand and JApan EQs being caused by solar activity on the other site..

Things are heating up on the sun just these last few days, it should be a good time for us to see if there are any more precursor "coincidences"..

I have lucked into seeing some stuff on solar flares in the days before our bigger quakes.

I have been prepared for all but the first 7.1

I am a believer because I have experienced it first hand multiple times

I even post videos of the flares on FB and say "Watch out"

I have never made a fool of myself yet!!

i will be coming here just to look for your threads!

the coronal mass ejections or CMEs tend to come around 3 days later if they happen. If and when they hit our Magnetosphere, it causes northern lights and also earthquakes..
