Air at 84
Eat less, plus eat smart
no order in food
no eating in resturants
Drive my motorcycle most of the time
bath every three days instead of every day
wash clothes once a week, and skip sorting
no tv
one cell phone between my wife and I
dug up my lawn (grass) put in rock
helped out with the stray dog population (just kidding)

Good ideas!!! I'm unplugging the hot water heater when not using it and buying food in bulk!!! I don't have cable and don't watch tv I save money and less brainwashing!!! I'm also running an led table lamp that I modified to run off of the voltage from my disconnected landline!!! And using cheap candles and oil lamps and using a wood stove to heat my water cook my food and dry my clothes!!!

Weed. Lots of people are supplementing their income by growing weed. Income tax free too I hear. Lots of people buying these days too, I think it's why they are always poor, ha.

errr Cable? whats that? chuckle just kidding

errr run the 9 or 13 watt compact floros instead of incadescents. get brighter ones for desk etc. or if you are on solar run 15 watt 12volt compact floros.

a water heater timer will cut ur electric a lot. insulate the tank and set it to run 2 hours every morning. 70% cheaper to run. solar water heaters work good and they dont cost anything to run. solar showers are cheap. i got one up out back just cuz i like using it when it gets hot. they get real hot.

collect rainwater to use for ur garden. u can buy 12 inch wide aluminum flashing in a 25 or 50 foot roll for about 12-20 dollars. take it and cut lengths you need gutters in, then clamp a 2x4 down the middle of it and bend the sides up around the wood. theres ur gutters to collect the water. saves a lot of money on watering. i only have 250 gallon tank at the moment and with a large garden, a full barrel only lasts a few days. but ill get more barrels as i find them. free. and plumb them together with pvc. gravity fed. no charge.

good supply of water for winter too.. always good for if the power goes down. if you r on a well and require a pump (mine does) when the power goes out for two weeks you realize how important water is.

yea no cable. or satellite. grab an antenna off ebay for 35 bucks and stick it up on a painters extension pole. youll get lots of channels. go here and you can see what channels youll get where you are with antenna at x height. its pretty accurate:
http://www.tvfool.com/

call around and find cheaper auto ins if u can. i pay eight bucks a month for a van and six bucks a month for a motorcycle. youd b suprised how much they will come down when they know u r calling around.

grow some food if you can. hunt some of your own meat if you can. buy in bulk what you do need to buy. if you need a phone, get a cheap phan. i pay 45 bucks a month for phone and internet.

price shop online at amazon and ebay for stuff u need. most ppl would b amazed at how much u can save.. even ordering big stuff.. and have it delivered vs driving to buy it. that not only saves you money in the purchase, but also gas money, and maintenance money on vehicles. that is big $$.

lots of stuff. think creative. i have a pond out front... the fountain is solar powered straight off a panel. no charge to run it.. it runs whenever the sun is out.. and keeps the pond circulated which is required unless i want to be carried off by mosquitos. lots of solar toys u can set up cheap. dollar markdown solar yard lights are great for hacking and making them into indoor night lights. hook the cells from 2 lights into 4 rechargeable aa batteries in a pack and to a light inside with some thin wire. low volt dc requires very little wire...even speaker wire is fine for these. photo sensor with cells on roof outside bathroom so it comes on at night. with 4 batteries instead of 1 itll burn all night and then some. no charge to run. chinese paper lantern on it costs a buck. great emergency lighting.

check out the timers and switches for watrer heaters they are cheap. i use a timer. runs every morning at 7am for 90 minutes. for a lot of people though a countdown timer switch is better. like if you work a lot more during the week and dont need it... the switch is a push button. when you want hot water you push it, and it will supply power to your water heater for x amount of minutes... x being what you set it to. most heaters can heat from 50-60 to 220 in about 90 minutes to 2 hours. mine runs a whopping 40 minutes every morning. but i use a timer because we have ppl here every day and need hot water every day. at once a day as i have it, its enough water (40 gallon tank set to 225) to take 2 showers and do a bunch of dishes and still have some hot left. timer was 25 bucks.. i think it paid for itself the first month i had it.

RE: Some crazy Ways to save money in this crazy economy???
I can say I have tried these new LED bulbs they have in the house as I try to stay as green as possible. They are OK for light but two things: (1) I have ran them off ac and dc and metered the usage, and i am not convinced the LEDs are more efficient than the compact floros. in fact i found they use more. i think they use shifty labeling and tell you the lumens per watt of light, instead of lumens per watt of electricity used. the latter being useful info, the first being completely useless. and worse (2) for some reason.. and my wife and i both noticed this... the Light spectrum given off by the LEDs is really wierd.. and really seemed to affect our sleep. to the point we tossed them. i use the 50 watt 12 volt dc halogen bulbs for my outdoor lighting. floros would be a bit more efficient but they do not like to turn on in the winter when it is cold. and out where i am. . if you want to go outside at night there might be anything from a racoon to bobcat to a deer or a bear... I personally like to see them, much better than the 3am freak out session because u stumbled onto a 6 foot tall buck snorting at you :) the halogens do the job and are easily found in `12volt dc. which is required because they are run off solar. better to run dc bulbs than run an inverter. they drain batteries.

pardon my drivel, im a bit of a nerd.

Are there timing devices made for gas fired water heaters?
