Thoughts occur all the time ... whether in mediation or not ... but
the point of mediation is to notice the arising of such Prana energies,
which are infinite ... and transcend them ... by noticing that you

Nevertheless ... one of the lessons of meditation is that whatever we
have conditioned our minds to do ... most of the time ... with repeated
exposure ... is usually what pops up during meditation.

Especially if such thoughts are fixations.

I know what you would like to think ... that you emptied your mind ... and
across the spiritual ether a premonition of doom came to your
consciousness as a sign of things to come.

But it is much more likely that the reason doom entered your mind
when you sat down to empty/watch your mind ... is because you
spend much of your time thinking about doom.

And there is much to be learned from that ...

Mountains are a collective metaphor for nations/kingdoms/empires (masses of the earth lifted up in a heirarchal shape to represent government to the conscious mind)...

You're seeing what is happening now--these things are not usually 'literal' but imaginative impressions are like dreams which are influenced by the collective unconscious... It's just like a movie... it has a meaning but it's not usually literal or 'right out front'... It's "occult" or hidden in metaphor... it's a weird phenomena to be sure.
