this is how 22's kill.. They bounce around inside like a ping pong ball...Most of them have 10 round magazines also.. I Have been shooting 22's mostly this year so far.. (BTW Ammo prices are going up again).. I just picked up 1500 rounds of CCI Blue Box 22 for My Model 41 Smith.. and 1000 rounds of federal auto match for my mp 15 22 (Smith ar 22).. so that is 2500 rounds of good quality 22 ammo for about $130...Enough to last for a little while and Less expensive than running 223 or 40 cal out of their big brothers..

I'm going to continue seeking out informed opinions on my 22 theory, but this is definitely worth thinking about.
No, the shotgun does indeed take practice just like any other firearm... But doe to the wider spread, it will take LESS practice to be able to hit reliably...
I would make a distinction between practice and familiarity. What about firing it inside? What's the realistic level of damage a 12G is going to do to my walls if i have to take 4 or 5 shots?

I have an old remington nylon 66, holds 14+1. had it sense I was 10.
I can shoot tin cans at 100 yards with open sights. I am more accurate with it than any other gun I have ever fired. all from practice.

Bird shot, no problem. 00buck will penetrate the inside walls. They make a home protection shell, called 2X4. Buck a round.
00buck is like 8 38 rounds.
First shell, bird shot, 2nd 2X4, 3rd 00buck, 4th slug. If that does not work, run.

I saw them when I was a kid,, (They are worth Big bucks now).. I went with the Winchester 22 rifle because I liked lever actions..It cost me somewhere around $125 back in 1978..

Thats just it... Unless the guy is wearing body armor (in which case the .22 is useless) you wont HAVE to take 2-3 shots with 12G 00Buck. One pull of the trigger send 21 .32 rounds downfield.. All at once, all in the same general area. Parties over for the bad guy.
if you DID, for some unknown reason, need to fire 2-3 times then the damage to your wall (provided they hit in the same place) would be total. The second round would probably go all the way through.... But thats STILL better then a .22, which will penetrate all inner AND most outer walls with ease on the first shot.

I paid $20 for it! it did not fire when I got it, but it sure does now. I am thinking about getting a ruger 10/22. best one around.
But really .22's are for fighting your way to a better gun, preferably a rifle

Eh.. depends on the wall I guess.
If its a GOOD wall, he'll probably be ok.... If its a trailer then even a spitball will cut through it. Not much ya can do about that really... STILL the scattergun will have less problems in that area then a high velocity.22

RE: The .22 thread
22's are fun to learn on also.. The Mark One ..two .or three are very good pistols.. Prob the best when you factor in the cost..Better than the Buckmark because this pistol is a pain to clean...

LOW BRASS bird shot...no bigger than #7...and you are correct about the trailer (don't ask)
22...better than nothing....but you better have your running shoes on,
here in texas everybody has got guns, expecially the invites from hurricane katrina
shotguns still have a very tight pattern out till 20 plus yards....forget about what you see in the movies

RE: The .22 thread
or OP you could buy an old 1911 in .45 and buy a conversion kit for it so you can practice with .22.
that would be an option.

Sure they do.. All the MORE reason for the 12.
Image the difference here... 10 rounds of .22 scattered all over the place, IF he has that much time (doubtful) versus 21 rounds of .32 inside of a 6in circle, instantly.
Fact is the shotgun is much more akin in this situation to a full blown SMG... The .22 pistol is more akin to a trip to the morgue (for the homeowner, not the bad guy).

BTW in looking for 22 ammo.. every gun has it favorite brand.. But from my experience Remington is the poorest manufactured 22 ammo out there..
