As you may have guessed I am not American, but a large proportion of my family are, I have heard them discussing the topic and don't fully understand it hence my question..

For what it is worth, the local castle has a sign (been there some 100+ years old) that reads "this castle is a symbol of oppression" so anything I might feel generally goes in that direction and it certainly has nothing to do with a notion of white guilt.

I could for example guess what things are like, but feel I am better served to ask and not make assumptions (which I freely admit I do far to often as it is)
