Pi Wrote:LoP Guest Wrote:Shakey1 Wrote:Woah. I'd say that's pin-worthy. Not surprising, but foreboding nonetheless.
Hummm, foreboding, something that has been in place since 2001 is now all the sudden foreboding?
Yep, not sure why all of a sudden this is a big deal. It was formed back in 2001...

Yeah, but the law regarding them wasn't updated until 2010:
"On October 12, 2010 President Barack Obama signed into law S.B. 1132 the "Law Enforcement Officers' Safety Act Improvements Act", which states that police officers and law enforcement officers of the Federal Reserve are "qualified law enforcement officers" and thus are authorized to carry a firearm off-duty. This update to the Law Enforcement Safety Act, among other aspects, clarified that Federal Law Enforcement Officers working for Amtrak and the Federal Reserve (not funded by Congress) are specifically granted the same rights as publicly funded law enforcement officers as it relates to off duty concealed carry."
So basically, Amtrak, a train corporation, employs police officers who have the same rights as government employed police officers.
Does nobody see a problem with that?

I can't wait until the bankers are all murdered and hung up on the street poles. These fuckers know they're going to get lynched. I could not care less about them getting glock 22s. They'll need nuclear weapons when a crowd of a couple million people come after them. Wall street will be first then washington. Those stock brockers thought they were so cute when occupy was there. I predict they won't be smiling when shit hits the fan. In fact, I bet quite a few will kill themselves. There will be no mercy and I predict a very bloody scene. I can't wait.

This is about to twist my mind in a knot.
If the corporations of Amtrak and the Federal Reserve have their own private police force and they can arrest and detain you without a warrant; where do they take you when they detain you? Do your constitutional rights apply?
If you are arrested by a police force employed by a corporation whose true owners are foreign nationals, the police force not having taken an oath to uphold the constitution and themselves possibly foreigners; do you have any redress of grievances , writ of habeas corpus or can they stop, search, arrest, jail, even put you to death without fear of reprisals?
This is so over the top bad Ju-Ju.

"writ of habeas corpus" is where the rubber meets the road.

Let's say a corporation did the same thing; Wal Mart for example had a private poilce force with arrest power and gun carry? all by the stroke of a pen? seems out of kilter.

Good question. But if the police are paid by the corporation... what happens when the corporation commits a crime?

Though I would love to live to see a day where corporations are held accountable by the people and delivered justice as they deserve. I am skeptical I will see that day, however.
