RE: The Founders Loathed Superstition and We Were Never a Christian Nation
America was founded by Protestants, fleeing Catholic controlled
monarchies in England.
The Catholic church that organized during the Spanish Inquisition,
by the same men who'd hunted down and murdered Christ's disciples
after Christ himself was crucified, locked down everything, including
the right to worship except as a Catholic. Tribute was extracted.
The movement begun by the Magna Carta and then the work of
Martin Luther to free the writings created by Christ's peers,
as well as the rest of the records of expectancy of the birth of
Christ prior to the inception of the Catholic church, was fulfilled by
the stampede by anti-Catholics to North America.
Conveniently for settlers, the Spaniards had shown up decades
prior, and spread disease that wiped out 9 out of every 10
of the indigenous inhabitants, after forcing gold out of the south
Americans till they were so sick of it they melted some and poured
it down the throat of their dear leader, Cortez, (too late to keep
his men's seed from spilling into the South American continent,
as well as African slaves and their Arab traders doing brisk trade
along the coastlines with the Conquistadores).
To argue about the religion of the founding fathers, is ridiculous.
They were to a man, anti Catholic and anti monarchy; hence the horrendous
treatment of the Catholic Irish and their lace curtains and
drinking when 2 million of them
flooded the colonies, during the potato famine.
The recognition of God as our Creator was inherent in the founders,
obviously; read the founding documents. as was the intention to
establish liberty from monarchy and enforced worship in the
Catholic church that went with it, known then as the fruit of the murderous
rampage through Spain at inception.
Our lives today would stun them, comparable only to Biblical descriptions
of Sodom, Gomorah or Babylon (as presented by the media) and as lived
in cities.
I really wish some of you could go back in time to those days and
experience the culture, the faith, and the founding of the United States
of America, to see the sacrifices made and the heroism of the day,
for liberty.
When law is made meaningless for some, law becomes meaningless for all.

That's the story of the Colonies. The Puritans founded the colonies. The Puritans did not found wicked ol' Washington DC. Then came the Civil War. Christians didn't run the Civil War either. Albert Pike and the other FreakMason war criminals killed 900,000 Americans and replaced states govt at that time.
Fuk FreakMasons and Fukc Washington DC.
They've been nothing but problems since day 01.
After the Civil War the same founded the Federal Reserve and war continued worldwide every since.
FreakMasons have murdered millions of the unborn and millions more in war.

RE: The Founders Loathed Superstition and We Were Never a Christian Nation
Has America as a nation ever put the teachings of Jesus into practice?
Not individuals. The nation. The way it acts in the world. The way it treats its own poor. The priorities it has as a country.
Has America ever tried to "love its enemies"?
Has America ever given away all its wealth to the poor and dedicated its life to following Jesus?
Has America ever treated other nations as America itself would like to be treated?
Can any nation call itself a Christian nation that does not do the above?

Great thread, Dr P, and, I concur, the founders of America were not Christian, they were irreligious.

RE: The Founders Loathed Superstition and We Were Never a Christian Nation
Good, excellent and accurate post.
They were products of The Age of Reason and The Enlightenment with it's promotion of science, the advamcement of knowledge and opposition of mainstream superstition and the intolerence of the presiding centuries of the abuse of church and state.
Read the histories of the nations were these people either came from or were descended from, especially those of Scottish descent.
Unfortunately all that has transpired is a modern version of enlightened despotism...
The abuses of the state are now paramount and the reactionary religious movement (of all faiths) has the the cacpacity to subvert all your freedoms with intolerence and division.
Mr. Gormsby: Of course I wasn't going to roger you, this isn't a Catholic school

RE: The Founders Loathed Superstition and We Were Never a Christian Nation
Great thread Dr P.
Slightly aside but not completely off-topic...
The term In God We Trust was put on $20 notes in 1957.
This was during the time of the American Inquisition (McCarthyism) when there was a lot of fear and insecurity.
People turn to religion as a salve for the difficulties and uncertainties of their lives. In social democracies, there is less fear and uncertainty about the future because social welfare programs provide a safety net and better health care means that fewer people expect to die young. In social democracies, people who are less vulnerable to the hostile forces of nature feel more in control of their lives. So there is less need of religion.
The simplest answer is most likely the correct one

Please explain your thoughts on why you believe a proud outspoken debunker like postman that has zero belief in the lunatic fringe would spend an inordinate amount of time on various forums and newsgroups doing nothing more than mocking others for their curiosity and beliefs?
One doesn't debate with postman because he's not here to debate; he's here to shill and kill threads. His mind isn't open and he's not respectful to anyone else's views. Your accusations are aimed in the wrong direction.

Dr P is a one of the most well-rounded, open-minded and tolerant people on this forum.
What I said was directed to someone who would twist his name to Dr Pissant, would tell him to f*ck off, accuse him of being a shill (whilst my shill-dar says negatory), and offers no intelligent rebuttal.
