CDC (Colony Collapse Disorder) in bees is also a factor. No pollination, no crop. Poisoning everything that is inconvenient will come back to bite us. Big time. Thanks Monsanto.

RE: The Great Famine Of 2013
Thanks for bringing this to the front.
I live in Central Florida. Usually I can have two crops a year sometimes three. This year my Spring crop was a 50% loss because of no rain. I replanted and it seemed that it would work out because it started to rain. But the rain didn't stop for three months. Again it was nearly a 70% loss.

The Fall garden was late getting planted because of the rain. I had one lonely pole bean sprout and that was after planting the same rows three times. I do not know why they did not sprout. Now I have to watch the weather closely for unseasonal freezing temps. I have had to cover the beds with plastic two nights already in November. The days are cold and the nights colder. There are days when the sky reminds me of impending snow, like I remember from living in the North. I do not foresee a harvest of any consequence for the Fall garden.

I did not produce enough of anything to can or dehydrate. We consumed all that was produced as soon as it was ready.

The weather, rain, no rain, heat, cold, cloudy, overcast sky day after day have all interfered with the normal routine of my garden.

I will order seeds and try again in the Spring. I don't have much hope of success though.
