Just watched this shorter one, gives the basics and benefits.

Maybe this is the longer one you mention:

Skimming the thread titles on the first page, I knew this would be one of yours without even looking.

The only reason why solid core reactors won out was the ease to use them to breed weapons grade fuels.

Liquid fuel reactors are much safer and use a more plentiful fuel source, it was a stupid move to through everyone into the solid, high pressure reactors.

I understand China is investing a lot of time, energy and money into developing commercial sized Thorium Reactors.

It used to be one would go to the US to find innovations like this... I guess those days are over.

Thorium is only mildly radioactive. It's useful as a fuel only after undergoing neutron bombardment where it trans-morphs into Uranium 233.

There are significant technical challenges with fluorine salt breeder reactors. Containing molten salt alone is exceptionally difficult. The fuel processing is even more difficult. Imagine trying to separate heavy elements from molten salt. Its difficult enough at room temperature.

Great points all^

We are indirectly financing the technology and factory expansion in China and the East. By not maintaining a balance of trade and tariffs, off-shoring so many factories and by allowing them to finance our national debt.

Some of the last cutting edge technologies being developed in the US are defense projects.
And we won't know about most of them, except for a brief flash and burning sensation. chuckle

I said Mildly. Compared to many other things it's radiation level is extremely low. It's half-life is 14 billion years.

Thorium is not fissile. But it can be bred into fissile U233 which is dramatically more radioactive.
