Bump for discussion.

I know people probably view this as a plug for the movie, but I think it's important to be aware of what they are putting in kids movies these days. After all, kids listen to movies and shows more than they do their parents and teachers. It is a direct window into shaping their beliefs, which will someday shape the society in which we live. So definitely something to be aware of!

Nah, not a plug.

Some good analysis and it's funny how your alarm bells go off when there is a major film production ostensibly promoting the right thing, as do mine.

Yes EXACTLY. Couldn't have described it better. That is exactly when I get suspicious is when the "sharks" suddenly identify with the "guppies" and are saying the things they know they want to hear (another analogy I just thought of, since the wolf and the sheep one is so tired anymore).

Both the book and the movie bugged the crap out of me. I remember when I first heard about the concept of global warming and how we're causing it with deforestation and such...I immediately thought of the Lorax story and how preachy and high-horsey it's always seemed to me. I generally like Dr. Seuss a lot, but this story was environmental propaganda well ahead of the green guilt movement.

So true. I mean we can see climate change happening all around us, but to demonize the consumers as they do with their "carbon tax" is just ridiculous. Quit using nature as a wedge to force your ideas on us. And then to make it worse they are now instilling this guilt in children on an even bigger scale now. I guess it has been happening for a while now, but when I was a kid it wasn't nearly as powerful. But that was before CGI.

Our fear and guilt = their control. It's all by design, IMO. There are no absolutes in life but that is exactly how the environmental movement is structured. Either you're with the cause or you're against it. The scientists who tow the party line are the good guys; the ones that question everything like scientists should are slandered and mocked (or are threatened that their funding will be pulled unless they get on board).

I tell my kids that any movement or philosophy that takes on a black or white stance with no shades of gray in between is suspect at best.

Very true. The only absolute in this reality is truth. And truth from the human perspective is very dynamic and subject to change. So that leaves us with the only constant in the universe is that nothing is constant. In my personal reflectings I have taken this to be what was meant by that saying about God. How God moves by not moving at all. Or nature if you prefer. Either way, same thing. Nature is God, God is nature, creation is life, life is the creation.

Funny that is pretty much the same thing I told to my wife about our cat. He is now addicted to these damn cat treats, and now he is so annoyingly persistent about getting them he is always meowing for them now and trying to open the door to the pantry.

So I gave her a hard time, she said it was to make up for us having to keep him indoors since last time he found out snakes have fangs. But I told her he still wants outside AND he wants treats now. I told her the treats weren't for him, they were for her and her guilty conscience.
