Firstly... marijuana was around for thousands of years and even Huxley used it. So how could he be refering to marijuana?

Thirdly, if you had read his final book, the Island, you would know that he then changed his position. He started using LSD or acid and started to talk that drugs will change humanity and allow men to evolve.
