Its been over 30 years since I took astronomy in college and the discoveries since that time have been monumental. I've been watching the Teaching Company DVDs on the Hubble and I've gotta say, simply awesome. Essentially the Hubble is a CIA spy sat they turned ass backwards to look out into the universe and the images are spectacualar to say the least.

I really have no vested interest in whether the universe is big bang or steady state but i do have questions regarding the theory. Basically steady state and big bang were both popular in the 60's because there was no conclusive evidence to distinguish one from the other. Penzias and Wilson discovered the cosmic background and this evidence was crafted into a proof of big bang. It was the stake driven through the heart of steady state. In essence, the background is the photons from the boig bang that are red shifted to microwave according to the explanation.

But, the problem I have is, if visible photons were shifted to microwave how about UV or even gamma radiation from the primordial explosion. In essence I would think we should see a massive wall of light at the edge of the known universe.

But my concerns run even deeper. Per cubic centimeter what is the most abundant substance in the universe? I would say light itself. Thats why we can observe galaxies billions of light years away because a photon from them impinges on our sensor here.

My concern is that red shift is not being looked at quantum mechanically. We know light is a quantum particle and it must emit radiation quantum mechanically if it is red shifted. The question is, where does that energy go? I believe it goes into a microwave. So, it doesn't surprise me that we see a microwave hiss over the sky nor that it is nonisotropic because the light distribution is nonisotropic.

So I bequeath to some interested student this view to explore via quantum physics.

It may also explain the dark matter and dark energy. This is beause light itself creaates a gravitational field. In fact it is quite probable that the microwave emission is connected with the production of gravitons particularly red shift from heavy objects where it would absorb or emit gravtions or anti-gravtions and require micrwave emission in the process. If you don't believe light has mass through Einsteins E=mc2 then look at the blades of a radiometer and how they spin when exposed to light. In other words, what I am saying is that the dark matter and dark energy may simply be the mass of light through E=mc2. It may also explained th observed accelerated "expansion" for distant objects. If light is flowing out there into the universe it would pull via gravitation which increased with time.

yes, but why increased in time? Not decrease?

massive wall of light...event horizion?

in the spectrum of known time...in a way....we ride the event horizon...maybe the aliens cant hang on our wave? Scared of the big kahuna possibly? an alien spectrum by any other name is...still an alien...till we get to know it better

i better stfu and flounce...lol
