The only way to save the government, is to destroy it
The professionals who interact with government -- lawyers and lobbyists -- make sure every issue is viewed through the blinders of a particular interest, not through the broader lens of the common good. Government is almost completely isolated from the public it supposedly serves. The one link that is essential for a functioning democracy -- identifiable officials who have responsibility to accomplish public goals -- is nowhere to be found. Who's in charge? It's hard to say. The bureaucracy is a kind of Moebius strip of passing the buck. The most powerful force in this subculture is inertia: Things happen a certain way because they happened that way yesterday. Programs are piled upon programs, without any effort at coherence; there are 82 separate federal programs, for example, for teacher training.

RE: The only way to save the government, is to destroy it
The senior staffer with whom I was talking understood the virtues of the proposal. But, he said in somewhat guarded language, "It's better for us to propose traditional tort reform capping damages." But that doesn't solve the problem of defensive medicine, I argued. "I understand that," he acknowledged, "but we benefit that way." What are the odds of traditional tort reform passing? I asked. "Oh, about one in 100," he answered. A junior staffer had to translate what was happening: The White House wanted to propose a reform it knew would fail so that Republicans could blame the Democrats for not solving the problem.

This behavior by high-ranking public servants should be considered scandalous. People in Washington consider it business as usual, and don't even raise an eyebrow.

Well, those families where there when America became a super power too. I do not think they can even make this system better. They can only let it crash and burn when they think that that might be the only way to reform it.

America is a drift. Like the piece says, the most powerful force is inertia. I think this is true for a lot in the world, things happen, nobody really in control, we only try to manage if we are not trying to use what happens to some benefit and perhaps blindly steer it some other direction we have no idea about.

The alternative is also not really cool ofcourse. What if we did have control, who would have it, and far would that reach.

So I don't know how to fix it or how I want it. It just is a mess.

Take back our currency!!!

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs." — Thomas Jefferson

If Europe survives and continues, I see the same in it's future. I also have no idea how a world government will ever work if we clearly seem unable to keep some sort of process control over smaller areas.

I also believe the same, although I have no idea how it will help. The problems are many an not directly related with issuing money. But I guess the issuing of money by an outside power is one extra big thing that can make some sort of control extra difficult.

It does sound ridiculous. I don't know if they got it from a lesson in history, if it ever happened before, if it worked. But I think it is better to try it then to let the trillions dollar hole destroy everything. I cannot imagine that working out nicely. It would not just mean the 'evil' bankers do not get their bailout. It would mean millions of people would not get their wages, pensions and other income. They would have lost their savings. Many companies would go bankrupt, commerce would die down....etc. etc.

That it was possible to have such a huge bubble burst is just insane. So the solution is ofcourse also insane. We will have to wait and see if an economy can be fooled like this. But I believe that if they did not do it, the instant destruction could destroy western power.

I just do not understand why it had to be put on the national debt of countries and not just be pumped into the system for free. Many trillions where vaporized, so just act as if it did not happen, reprint the money, and we should be fine....if that works. But now we still have it on the government debt. So it is still a huge problem.

That's the thing though.

Debt created through fraud. The financials are just one big "Fraud Bubble".

All western countries need to do like Iceland did.

Arrest the central bankers for fraud. Then kick the IMF out of the country.

Maybe true. We could at least try that too for a while, see what it accomplishes. But it seems that we also still are unable to really manage big empires, the accumulated interests create a pile of you know what. But if we only have small countries, we seem to go to war a lot.
Maybe we should just give leaders free XTC and Mushrooms, I don't know.
