Thinking of Moving to New Mexico, please advise
I have an opportunity to move my family to a small town in the Albuquerque metro area of New Mexico in the near future. Been doing research for the last few days... everything that's important to us looks as good or even better overall than Texas, where we are currently living (low gun regulation, education freedom, low income and property taxes, barebones local government) and even the weather seems very mild compared to the deserty reputation NM has... 17 degrees in the winter, 85 in the summer, really? The tract of land we would be developing seems well suited to gardening--12 feet deep of riverbottom silt and well-water from a mountain-fed aquifer far larger than the population of the area could ever use.
We are all more than willing to learn spanish, the only real drawback i see is the near total lack of trees, but if it was perfect then there would be lots of people living there and property values would be much higher.
I just wanted to get a lay of the land from current or former LOPer residents of the Albuquerque area. Pro or con, stuff you wouldnt know until you had lived there for a while, and stuff that only conspiracy weirdos tend to care about.

Depends on who you ask. It has its beautiful places, but if you're a woo-woo like me, I'd stay away. Dulce is way too close for comfort and that's some scary shit right there.

As a country boy who moved there for about 6 months from the PNW I'd have to say it wasn't very nice. Seemed dirty, tons of mexicans, low wages, everything fenced off and very limited access even when you get out of the city and surrounding areas. I high tailed it back to the country.

people's heads seem to detach in that southern part of the world. it would seem hard to enjoy the beauty of the area without a head. just sayin.

For the record OP, we live in SE AZ. HATE it there! NM is only a short drive for us. AZ is very gun friendly, but not great for growing crops (though they do do it), heat gets bad, like it is right now, lots of illegals, drug problems, etc., I can't wait until we leave that whole SW part of the U.S.

What part of ABQ are you thinking of moving to? I lived out of Sandia, people there considered that country but you could throw a rock and hit a house anywhere you were standing in the area.

Oh I forgot to add the tap water will give you the trots and tie your gut in a knot. And every place you go to eat will ask if you want red or green on your food. I think they even but that stuff in their cokes.

almost 70% hispanic, im willing to bet they have more mexicans than texas, and that speaking spanish is more than a casual advantage in the rural areas.
