RE: Today's Deist Sermon
Well I'm probably a deist too, but maybe a little different from the old deism I read about since it appeared to me from what I read that they believed in a God or Source that seemed kind of distant or detached.

Like an object that exists outside of the Universe but made it and it just runs by itself.

What I believe in is a little different, I don't think anything can run by itself, but that everything Ultimately depends on an underlying power source or basis in order to continue to exist (sustained) and move around (animated). I believe God is what is directly behind everything, literally infront of us and all around us and inside us and what the whole Universe is inside and what is behind it directly animating it and sustaining it *moves fingers around as if that is like how particles move and stuff*.

I don't believe in any distant creator type thing, or a God of a limited form that can be confined to a place outside the Universe.

I don't believe anything (any information) can exist without God being directly present in order for it to exist.

I believe God is what everything is inside and exists by.

Essentially everything that we see and experience and think can be called information, everything = information. It is made up of calculations, numbers, laws, blah blah, whatever but it is just information essentially and that is what God creates, but information can't do anything by itself nor support itself, so it ultimately relies on the infinite God as what powers it and keeps it around and animates it.

Some people have misunderstood that as me thinking God is the Universe, but I don't think God is the Universe (this physical material Universe). I believe that there may have been a moment there was no Universe existing, or that if no Universe existed, the Ultimate would still exist (or else nothing would or could ever exist).

I believe God is infinite, in the image of nothing, having no boundaries or limitations, operating purely on free will (something we don't truly have), the ability to will things without any other source or needs and manifest information from only itself and nothing else. Self sufficient, whatever it wills is what happens.

So I don't believe in a God like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRH3zcHEN...re=related

Which seems to be what lots of people imagine. Some kind of being who created stuff.

I don't believe God is a "thing" like we are "things" but rather God is unique, the only infinite, the only power, the only source, the Ultimate reality, the only true will, the one that can create choices and possibilities and information out of nothing.

It has no shape or image because shapes and images are limitations and essentially small before an infinite. An infinite occupies all space, pervades even solids, it goes in every direction forever with no end because there is nothing outside of it, everything is inside of it.

It was not created, but essentially is all there is and ever was and ever will be.

RE: Today's Deist Sermon
My God is even more strict than the architect in the Matrix movie. He at least tried to make changes to his program.

The way I see God is like a computer programmer artist. God made the rules of the universe, specified the initial parameters, and executed it. God was aware that our dna would produce a man, and a squirrels dna would make a squirrel.. and a franken food fish laced strawberry would make an unpalatable fruit.

I don't believe that God meddles in our affairs constantly so I don't ask for God's help. I do use the tools God gave me to solve my own problems. I don't believe in miracles except nature itself which has provided everything we need. I don't believe God made this universe entirely for our benefit. I think this is short sighted and arrogant. We depend on other life to survive. If we become too successful as a species we might end up dooming ourselves by eliminating the life forms we depend on in one way or another.

God made evil as well as good. I don't think god is omni-benevolent or malevolent. Can God create a stone that he cannot lift? God made this universe God can turn it off and restart it: big ass rock and all. He might not be able to lift the big f*cking rock himself but he can make tool that can.

If God doesn't answer my prayers, isn't perfectly good, not apparently omnipotent, then why call God, God? God is simply the First Cause, the cause of all things. That alone is enough for reverence. You cannot see God so why care if God exists? I cannot see an atom but I know it exists. The existence of an atom can be verified from experiment. I care that God exists in the same way I care that atoms exist.

Look, everything can't be an accident. Someone had to decide that the dominant form of matter in the universe was going to be hydrogen. There is an archetype for all forms of nucleic life. Every form of life existed before the universe existed. With the billions of interdependencies in ecosystems there is simply no way it could have all worked by chance.

That's just how I see it.

Everyone has a right to believe whatever. This is just what I do.

Challenge your programming.
