I am not a scientist, but will give you my lay understanding of the situation. Please do not take this as gospel.
The heliosphere is a giant "bubble" of magnetism inflated by solar winds which encompasses the solar system, and protects the planets from cosmic radiation (about 1/10th of it). It extends way out past Pluto and can't be see by telescopes, so NASA wanted to take a look. IBEX is the spacecraft sent to report on the very boundary of our solar system.
You'll notice that a lot of attention is being focused on the Sun.
It was believed that the solar system was moving at a high enough rate of speed to create a shock wave in front of it, like a jet aircraft traveling at the speed of sound. Instead, it is moving 7,000 mph slower than thought and there is no shock wave protecting us.
This is bad news, but NASA scientists aren't connecting the dots. The information is out there if you look for it, but you have to draw your own conclusions. This is why so many of us are interested in the Sun because clearly something is going on, but the scientists aren't really telling us what. They give us the basic information, but don't tell you that we should be worried.
What is not being said is that the heliosphere is shrinking and the solar winds are about 20% less than there were 15 years ago, and at a 50-year low. This means we will likely experience greater cosmic radiation, and this could be the reason for evolutionary leaps in the Earth's past at precise intervals. Perhaps evolution is spurred on by genetic mutations from increased cosmic radiation. IBEX discovered that there is no shock wave at the boundary so there is no real defense against cosmic radiation coming from a supernova or other galactic event.
NASA doesn't exactly come out and say that, but it is implied if you read between the lines.
The Local Interstellar Cloud (or Fluff), affectionately known as Fluffy on certain forums, is a band of highly magnetized particles about 30 light years across. We're heading through it right now. The Sun's heliosphere protects us from the effects of this Cloud, and the Cloud may have some affect on the Sun.
So let's review. We're heading through a potentially problematic Fluff Cloud, but we have been protected by the Sun's heliosphere. Now the heliosphere is weakening and shrinking at the same time, and there isn't this big area of protection like a wave out in front.
This means we could be exposed to gamma ray bursts, etc. How that will affect us is the $64,000 question. Sometime last week, it was reported that the Sun has an effect on people's behavior and the political turmoil we're experiencing may be due to this dynamic.
NASA doesn't really say much, and the information is presented in such a manner you have to really educate yourself on the terminology to even have a rudimentary understanding.

No, the Boeing Guy said there would be a loss of the grid and implied it would be some time over the winter.

He was correct in a lot, but yeah, missed it about the grid collapse and the time-frame.
My excuse for him was that we entered a solar minimum that was wholly unexpected, so it would have pushed his window off about a year and half.

And now we have fluff effecting the sun. This has to have a positive Doom effect on the sun and us.

And I think that is possibly why the announcement a few years ago regarding the seen explosion of G1.9+3.0 at the galactic center was a concern to NASA when they called the conference about it.
I remember listening to the announcement and then going back to the forum (GLP at that time) and everyone was pissed because it was not about ufo disclosure.
There was concern in some of the voices from NASA, and I thought it was a GREAT announcement
Now for my woo interpretation.....
(25,000-28,000 light years) to the galactic center. Maybe that cosmic explosion is about to reach us.
It's a good thing though.

RE: FINALLY! New information from IBEX that continues to verify denser FLUFF!!!
Hi SickScent - Great to get more info about the Fluff, have been following this since I first saw your posts on it at the other place. I have a question for you, which might be related - the fact that we're in this cloud, might this be the reason the sun actually LOOKS different? It is much "whiter" at midday than it used to be, like it is surrounded by haze. But it looks like this on an absolutely crystal clear day without a cloud in sight and no chem- or contrails anywhere to be seen. I've noticed this over the last couple of years in summer, but today it was VERY evident, it look white and fuzzy instead of yellow and clearly defined. And it was a beautiful clear day, not hazy at all (it hasn't been nearly hot enough here in southern BC for that haze to build). Is Fluff affecting the way the sun looks? Or is this an atmospheric thing? I was wondering about this today as I tended the garden and sat down to enjoy a bit of the gorgeous weather.
Any thoughts?
