If the people have faith in the FRN it won't die. Watch out for more posts such as this. Soon as faith is lost then the dollar is truly doomed.

For some reason I don't see anyone here giving up all those worthless dollars!

But I do agree that there can be better places to keep your wealth. I brought my present house in 2001 in part as an investment; in retrospect, i'd have been better off keeping my wealth in dollars. But you can't live in a bank-account, and I figure I should be at least able to break even when I sell it.

Fighting ignorance -- one ignoramus at a time.

the faith is lost.

I had a property deal that was to be funded by a European group recently, they wanted to loan in Euro and be paid back in Euro.

Converting the deal to dollars was not the issue, it was the risk in converting the loan payments back.

we could not find a bank willing to hedge the deal, meaning secure the devaluation of the dollar out over the 10 year term of the loan.

Id say that pretty much sums it up.

Today the summit is taking place in India, BRICS. The countries agreed to move away from the dollar and form a development bank.

keep predicting I'm sure at some point you'll be correct

But something new has happened. Countries like India, Japan, Saudi Arabia and China no longer want to buy oil with U.S. dollars.

Dan

Yes, Dan , this IS THE TIPPING POINT !!!
WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF THE BRICS FORMULATING A NEW EXCHANGE CURRENCY, THE DOLLAR WILL LOSE 40-55% OF ITS PURCHASING POWER.
Oil will be in todays Dollar terms $155-160 a barrel .
Our oil rich economy is doomed if this happens........Hiding

I think 12 months is too optimistic. I think today, or very near future, you begin to see a mass exodus from dollars, bonds, anything dollar-denominated... by the end of THIS year dollar will be all but worthless! Thanks O!

Sigh....

It was supposed to be dead in like 2009-2010-2011-2012....

How about you people just accept your magical doom will never come and you should try to improve you live with the way reality is currrenly and not the way you think it will be if the system collapses.

I bought a (previously sold for) 180.000.00 dollar house for 38,000.00 this month, so I can not figure out why they say the market is improving anytime soon.
For me, it beat renting.
