A case of Ebola is reported in Mbarara District

This has been confirmed by the District Health Officer Dr. Amooti Kaguna who says the suspected Ebola case has been admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital with samples of stool and blood got from the patient and taken to Entebbe virus research institute for screening.

Dr. Kaguna says the suspected Ebola patient is being critically observed and treated, calling upon the public to be calm since the medical experts are doing their best to contain the deadly disease.

He adds that more details of the suspected Ebola patient at the hospital will be disclosed during a press briefing tomorrow Wednesday.

19 new Ebola cases reported at Kagadi Hospital

Ninteen new Ebola cases were Tuesday morning reported at Kagadi Hospital in Kibaale district.

Mubende district bordering Kibaale has set up an isolation centre center following reports that Ebola patients from Kibaale were flocking the health unit for treatment.

This caused panic as Nurses turned away patients for fear that they could be having the deadly Ebola virus.

Mubende Hospital chief Dr. Edward Nkurunziza told New Vision that the isolation center would handle Ebola cases if confirmed.

If Ebola were to manage to make it through several airports including international flights without severe quarantine measures taken. What then?

It has a gestation period of up to I believe 21 or 22 days..Think about it.

That could very easily cause major catastrophe.

It is a terribly gruesome way to go and if you get it you probably die.

Ebola is very scary virus.

TSA would spread the shit out of it all by themselves those rat bastards..Wonder if that is part of the diabolical plan?

Cui Bono?

That raises a question:
Do the TSA change their gloves after every passenger the molest?
Can you even DEMAND that they change gloves before subjecting you to what you may consider to be an unacceptable risk to your life?

I mean by this, that as far as you know the last person they TSA) rubbed their gloves over could have been in Uganda in the last few days! Would you then want them rubbed on you?

This is shaping up to be significant. If there is any sign of P2P in the capitol in the next two weeks, then, "Houston, we have a problem".

RE: Ugandan president bans all physical contact after 2 Ebola cases reported in capital
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebola_virus_disease

The mean incubation period, best calculated currently for EVD outbreaks due to EBOV infection, is 12.7 days (standard deviation = 4.3 days), but can be as long as 25 days. EVD begins with a sudden onset of an influenza-like stage characterized by general malaise, fever with chills, arthralgia and myalgia, and chest pain. Nausea is accompanied by abdominal pain, anorexia, diarrhea, and vomiting. Respiratory tract involvement is characterized by pharyngitis with sore throat, cough, dyspnea, and hiccups. The central nervous system is affected as judged by the development of severe headaches, agitation, confusion, fatigue, depression, seizures, and sometimes coma.

The virus has been confirmed to be transmitted through body fluids. Transmission through oral exposure and through conjunctiva exposure is likely and has been confirmed in non-human primates. Filoviruses are not naturally transmitted by aerosol. They are, however, highly infectious as breathable 0.8–1.2 micrometre droplets in laboratory conditions; because of this potential route of infection, these viruses have been classified as Category A biological weapons.

Since ebola viruses do not spread via aerosol, the most straightforward prevention method during EVD outbreaks is to avoid direct (skin-to-skin) contact with patients, their excretions and body fluids, or possibly contaminated materials and utensils. Patients ought to be isolated but still have the right to be visited by family members. Medical staff should be trained and apply strict barrier nursing techniques (disposable face mask, gloves, goggles, and a gown at all times). Traditional burial rituals, especially those requiring embalming of bodies, ought to be discouraged or modified, ideally with the help of local traditional healers.
