I've been watching all night and so far, not a single one has been seen.

I just came in from watching. I think I saw two? 1dunno1 The moon is still too bright and there was a slight haze as well amplifying the moons brightness. It had a huge halo.

The best time, until the moon wanes more at least, is right after sunset before the moon rises. Just too much moonlight now.

Peace

Yep, very important to know the moon phase

So next week will be much better than this one. I plan to try out some astrophotography and maybe catch a meteor if lucky! I read some tips:
-use tripod
-use wide angle lens, say 14mm focal length
-use mid aperature, f5.6 to f11
-use ISO 400-800 (or more, if camera can handle the noise)
-30 sec exposure
-focus on infinity
-include a foreground object like tree for nice silhouette effect

I already saw a nice Perseids photo, lemme find it -

here it is, by Jeff Berkes in Utah. Really stunning, eh?

Oh that image is from July 2011, but still just as vivid.

RE: Upcoming meteor shower (start Aug7)
Me and the boys out camping just walked away from the fire to find a dark spot and we watched for about 45 minutes until cloud cover rolled in. A saw at least 15 with 3 really bright ones with trails in about 30 seconds. We'll try again later. The best time it's right before dawn looking towards the northeast.

This thread was pinned too early. Peak is this morning and tomorrow morning.

Peace

Someday...

...I'll fight in the kumite and make my father proud.
