Just saw it on liveleak.
Take a good look, the spotters actually killed him.
One lifted on his side while the other was just staring at the ceiling.

Wow that is horrible, I agree those spotters should have been taking their job more seriously. Man it seemed like he would be ok how he sat right up afterwards, the internal injuries must have just been too bad.

RE: Update on Russian Powerlifter
I realized the dangerous aspect of weight lifting with barbells and dumbbells. Many of the exercises involve lifting these weights over one's head and torso. When a weightlifter is straining to lift the weights and their hands are sweaty from the workout it seems remarkable that serious accidents don't happen more often.

RE: Update on Russian Powerlifter
The description on LL says he fractured several ribs and damaged his diaphragm, spleen, punctured a lung, but most importantly ruptured a valve in his heart.

RIP russian weight lifting guy. 34 yrs old and healthy as can be.

Sad ...

Quote:According to eyewitness, the sportsman used unsafe (banned) technique called “open grip” [ed: possibly related to the position of thumb while holding the bar]. Already during the training session he had the weight of 160 kg slipping from his hands, but then spotters managed to hold the bar.

RE: Update on Russian Powerlifter
So he decided to open grip 400lbs when he was slipping on 350lbs? WTF? And the spotters didn't expect it to fall? They should have been more vigilant and realized how likely that was to happen. Dude in red was off daydreaming or something.

Its just sad, but I really hope those guys don't blame themselves, that shit could really mess you up.

Don't think I can watch that Scream1

It's a big risk isn't it.... but a lot of willpower involved. Warning of caution to future lifters I suppose.

When a leaf falls, who's fault is it?
The tree that let it go,
The wind for blowing it away,
Or the leaf that got tired of holding on?
