WA state legal marijuana group launches TV campaign
A group supporting Initiative 502, which would legalize, tax and regulate sales of marijuana in Washington, is up, up and away with a $1 million advertising campaign and a 30 second spot you’ll see on early morning TV news.
“It’s definitely targeted to women who tend to be less supportive of marijuana reform than men,” said Alison Holcomb, coordinator for the New Approach Washington campaign.
The marijuana campaign is mellow, featuring a woman looking into the TV screen and saying:
“I don’t like it personally, but it’s time for a conversation about legalizing marijuana. It’s a multimillion dollar industry in Washington State and we get no benefit. What if we regulate it?”
The end message: A “new approach” to cannabis is needed.
New Approach is dealing with a tricky political climate. About 40 percent of Americans, including the 44th President, have smoked marijuana at some point in their lives. An overwhelming majority feel that targeting possession of small amounts of marijuana as a crime is wrong.
Yet, the country is polarized. Law enforcement has become addicted to its “War on Drugs” despite evidence that the war is being lost. The 1930′s-vintage movie “Reefer Madness” is still taken seriously, and the careers of students, park rangers and Olympic athletes get permanently blighted if they test positive or admit to taking a toke.
At the other end of the spectrum are what Holcomb calls “Free the Weed” advocates, the pothead constituency deeply suspicious of city attorneys and former FBI agents and police chiefs signing on to the legalization cause.

I agree legalization is the right thing to do
But I wish everyone would stop calling it MARIJUANA
that is the name it was given to vilify it
and making too many regulations is stupid as well,
what if I want to grow it in my back yard?
God put the plant on the earth for the benefit of mankind, and other animals
how do I know this?
Because it's useful for so many things
paper
cloth
food
oil
building materials
medicine
spiritual awareness
there is no known toxicity of this plant - what other substance can boast that safety record - well let me rephrase that - the only danger of pot is the consequences of it being illegal...
it can't be a coincidence
name a more useful plant!

RE: WA state legal marijuana group launches TV campaign
Legalization won't come easy with all the pressure from above, people should just talk more about this as it's important to the whole world in many ways. But folks still stuck on the smoking part, it's like banning glue altogether just because some people sniff it and get psychotic from glue sniffing, ban glue!
The plant sure is providing proof of a big conspiracy for all to see, amazing plant.

RE: WA state legal marijuana group launches TV campaign
This is 100% wrong.
The proposed taxes would push the price to $30 a gram, and do nothing but bolster and feed the gangs who will still sell at $8.
This is stupid in every respect.
It creates a permanent black market and keeps the criminals poisoning our forests and water sheds.
To legalize it must be cheap enough that the criminals wont waste their time.

Wrong, wrong and wrong.
Who in the hell sells good quality herb at 8 dollars a gram? Nobody I know.
You are talking about a new market opened up, with tons of legal competition. Why would people go to illegal operations, when they can do it legally and know what they are getting, the best quality you can get.
Do people make and sell alcohol to the point where it's a big problem? No because people can more easily go to the store and buy it.
This argument is completely useless and counterproductive to the legalization movement.

I always refer to it as either cannabis or herb.
Great thing to point out and make others aware of Astrochik!

Therein lies the rub: these laws are sometimes carefully worded so what looks like pot legality is actually suck, and that of course comes down to personal opinion.

RE: WA state legal marijuana group launches TV campaign
If it ever does become legal, I believe it won't be the final dry-seasoned product that will sky-rocket in price...it will be excellent genetic quality seeds and rooted clones. I'm sure Monsanto or the like has already figured out how to modify seeds to the point of maybe 3% THC at the absolute most, and maybe 5 females per 100 seeds. It could take over a year to find even 1 "good" plant if the Govt allows 5-7 plants growing at 1 time at all stages of growth. They will never pass it anyway on a Federal level, so if some sort of "gift" from the voting booths does happen, the Govt will still EF with people any way they can (domestic ONLY seed genetics, they may even DNA the plants...ouside genetics will earn you 10-20). The prison system is way too profitible, and most "now sober stoners" make great prisoners for the private prison guards.
Someone got into our heads, with big steel toed boots, cable cutters, and a chainsaw...they went to town. Neurons got exposed, curcuits got rewired. Our brain cells got obliterated... (Denzel Washington..."The Manchurian Candidate".)

RE: WA state legal marijuana group launches TV campaign
throw your seeds everywhere
plant it in the ground here and there
because it can and will grow just about anywhere
it wants to survive more than most humans try
it wants us to thrive and shows us our dark side
it lights the inner fire to get to the other side of our desires
it teaches us to become aware of our thoughts, actions, and feelings
and it hints to us there is something behind the curtains of reality
where one day we might meet the architects of this tragedy
why is it considered such a thought crime to get high?
to elevate yourself beyond the senseless dribble of reality?
because they would rather you get low on government blow
and wallow in all the worlds sorrow
free weed for all
free food for all
free shelter for all
if we learn to share
