Thanks!
Yes Sir/Mam: I deal with swimmers ear a lot, i have since i was young. A doctor passed this info on to me after 3 visits over a couple years for swimmers ear. for most of us (hopefully your little one too) it happens when some water gets wedged up in there with some excess wax. The easiest way to fix it is to take a couple of liquid laxative gel caps (NO JOKE) and have your little one lay with ear facing up - pop the gell caps and drain them into his/her ear. The medicine in the gel cap laxatives is the same thing the docs use to break up wax in ears. It wont hurt at all. Let it sit in there for five or ten minutes, massage it a bit around the ear to help work things loose. After that have him or her sit up and then use a baster or ear thingy to irrigate the ear (pressurized water). if you use a piece of tupperware as a catch pan under his or her ear, youll see what comes out. it can be helpful to see it so you know you got it cleaned out especially if theyre too young to tell you. if he's old enough though he will tell you when it happens. it is instant relief.
take care, i sincerely hope it helps. i wouldnt pass on bad info, i used to be a member here...
also, some ibuprofen would do real well to help with any inflammation and pain. tylenol would help with the pain... but it will not help with the irritation.
unless there are reasons why they should not take ibuprofen.. i would recomment it for any ear discomfort and or swelling... supplemented with tylenol if the ibuprofen doesnt help the pain enough. if taking tylenol as well as ibuprofen, try to alternate them (a couple hours in between) and a bit of food with the ibuprofen will make it easy on the tummy.
those gel caps are an oil base, btw ^ ^
the laxative gel caps can be verified by a quick call to your regular pharmacist (since its sunday and the doctors are closed) but any pharmacist should know right off and let you know it is okay since were on a forum and naturally i would want to make sure of it. a quick google search may turn up verification. sincerely i hope he or she feels bettter soon, ears can be very irritating when they malfunction. i have 3 kids myself...

no offense but i wouldnt. i went to my local er last week with a broken ankle (a seventy mile drive mind you) and they wanted to discharge me with NO TREATMENT NO X-RAYS mind you i have TRICARE and BACKUP insurance i am 100% covered and i didnt used to have the luxury of health insurance but really its not because they are f*cking money making pigs anymore.
after yelling at the doctor and being threatened with police, they called some bullshit manager who said 'xray his ankle' at which point they did, and then returned to put it all in a cast because its broke to shit..
i knew it was when i went - i fell 8 feet over a culvert into a ditch. but see... imma big guy and independent.. i already own cane crutches so i walked my SELF into the hospital . these people seriously acted like i was bullshitting.
but oh thank god i went because they gave me a script for these bad ass pain killers called naproxen. ok ok i give up too much sarcasm. really though... my entire foot is black and blue and these assholes try to tell me they will not see me?
indeed i will f*ck them off as much as possible, and indeed i will pass on any helpful info i can so people dont have to be treated like shit for health care.
as far as antibiotics... if i ever really need them ill take the same amoxicillin as my animals do that i buy DIRT CHEAP at the feed store. it is the same medicine. it works the same. not for serious complications etc of course and i would never recommend someone do it for their childs ear... but then again if they have no insurance and no money to go, I would consider it. ive been treating my dogs and cats for years... i do their shots and everything. they get an infection, i feed em the mox. my animals are very healthy ^ ^

RE: What Can You Recommend for " Swimmers Ear"?
When I was a child at summer camp, before we went swimming they put 3 drops of vinegar in each ear and repeated the process when we were done swimming. I never did get swimmers ear from swimming.... only from keeping my ears under water in the bath when a child. I had terrible ear infections from doing that.
If society fell apart, we - the people would build a new one. Most people are good at their core, and when we see things that are wrong we work to fix them together. Make friends with your neighbors, get involved with your community - because we will rebuild our lives, our communities, from horrible circumstances we always will.

RE: What Can You Recommend for " Swimmers Ear"?
We've always used a drop mixture of Half/Half Vinegar and Rubbing Alcohol.
The vinegar helps with the bacteria, and the Alcohol helps with the the bacteria, and acts to dry out the ear.
This was a mixture my pediatrician recommended to me years ago.
But... Its more of a prevention measure. My kids used to get it all the time. They lived in the Pool during the summer. Once we started using the drops, no more problems.
"Lest we be 'terrified by our adversaries,' it is well to remember that Satan’s power is not inherent but permitted (Romans 13:1). It is not unlimited, but controlled (Job 1:12; 2:6). It is not invincible, but broken (Luke 11:21-11). It is not assured of success, but is surely doomed "(Revelation 20:2-3)

RE: What Can You Recommend for " Swimmers Ear"?
FRIED_RICE Wrote:Swimmer's ear remedies and treatment generally require antibiotic treatment. sorry..............Swimmer's ear is an infection in the outer ear canal, which runs from your eardrum to the outside of your head. It's often brought on by water that remains in your ear after swimming, creating a moist environment that aids bacterial growth.
Putting fingers, cotton swabs or other objects in your ears also can lead to swimmer's ear by damaging the thin layer of skin lining your ear canal.
Swimmer's ear is also known as acute external otitis or otitis externa. The most common cause of this infection is bacteria invading the skin inside your ear canal. Swimmer's ear is usually treated successfully with eardrops. Prompt treatment can help prevent complications and more-serious infections.
not completely true Fried Rice.
for the simple fact the OUTER canal is where the action is at, it is the most easiest to treat.
duh.
what happens is that water cant evaporate and funks up,
first try rubbing alcohol, if it burns even more, use OIL, and what the oil does is SOFTEN the ear drum which has most likely dried out.when it dries out it cant VIBRATE as easily and causes pain.
try the alcohol first or even vinegar, kill the fungus, dries out the trapped water.
then use oil.leave it in for several minutes to work.
use aspirin which relieves inflammation if anything is swollen.
my kids swim almost every day.i grew up with earaches.
that is why i dont get my ears wet if i can help it.
