I think they should institute a closure on threads that no-one but the Op bumps also.

Seems like a cycle to me... it almost seems sometimes like people are posting threads they know will get deleted just so they can piss and moan about it

I am an old poster, like Frak, but more ancient. I am seeing threads closed for little overt reason. It happens, on forums, but should be questioned.

That is incorrect. I too wanted a thread to stay open but, the rules were being broken. The were talking about captain underpants and you can't do that here.

I'm one of the old gaurd too. It should be an eye opener for D and the other users to know that we see an ominous pattern. Not good.
