What is the original Hebrew name for Jesus?
What is the original Hebrew name for Jesus? And is it true that the name Jesus is really a pagan corruption of the name Zeus?

I am continually amazed by how many people write to our ministry and ask us questions like this one, which came in last week: “Some Christians say we have to use the Hebrew name, Yashua. They say calling on the name of Jesus is calling on Zeus. That Jesus is a disguise name for Satan. What answers do you have for this? Where can we prove the name of Jesus is correct to use in its English translation and pronunciation?”

The original Hebrew-Aramaic name of Jesus is yeshu‘a, which is short for yehōshu‘a (Joshua), just as Mike is short for Michael. The name yeshu‘a occurs 27 times in the Hebrew Scriptures, primarily referring to the high priest after the Babylonian exile, called both yehōshu‘a (see, e.g., Zechariah 3:3) and, more frequently, yeshu‘a (see, e.g., Ezra 3:2). So, Yeshua’s name was not unusual; in fact, as many as five different men had that name in the Old Testament. And this is how that name came to be “Jesus” in English: Simply stated, this is the etymological history of the name Jesus: Hebrew/Aramaic yeshu‘a became Greek Iēsous, then Latin Iesus, passing into German and then, ultimately, into English, as Jesus.

Now I will confess that when I usually just read the Bible, I use mainly a KJV, but below I have quoted from the Aramaic Bible in Plain English (and others) for emphasis. The three verses I will start with are:

Philippians 2:9-11
Because of this, God has also greatly exalted him and he has given him The Name which is greater than all names, That in The Name of Yeshua, every knee shall bow, which is in Heaven and in The Earth and which is under The Earth, And every tongue shall confess that Yeshua The Messiah is THE LORD JEHOVAH to the glory of God his Father.

Acts 4:10-12
“Let this be known to you and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Yeshua The Messiah, the Nazarene, him whom you have crucified, whom God has raised from among the dead, behold, in it and by him this man stands before you whole. This is the stone which you builders have rejected, and he is The Head of the corner. And there is no salvation in any other man, for there is no other name under Heaven given to the children of men by which it is necessary to receive life.”

Romans 10:9
And if you will confess with your mouth our Lord Yeshua, and you will believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall have life. http://www.talkjesus.com/bible-study-hal...TJEt5U7i1s

For behold, you shall conceive and you shall give birth to a son, and you shall call his name Yeshua.
Luke 1:31

“And she shall bring forth a Son, and she shall call his name Yeshua, for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:21

Yeshua has the meaning the Angel said we should call him, saviour. Jesus has no meaning at all in any language. The angel of God said we shall call his name Yeshua. God commanded it in the original Scriptures. Because Yeshua has the meaning of saviour.

The angel of God did not say we should call him Jesus, which has no meaning at all in any language.

Jesus as a greek name given by Paul/Saul to the man. Interestingly his real name is Sananda Esu Immanuel Kumara and as you see, Esu is the middle of Jesus. and of course the whole name above is in English and Paul did not speak english and never knew the name anyway.

The name given at birth was Aramaic, not hebrew and translated today, it is Joshua ben Joseph. Birth names do not follow one after the incarnation.

Then there is the other entity who shared the Incarnation, and that is the MIchael of Nebadon, whose name starts with "Aton" takes 1/2 page to write it, a member of my team did once, and more than that, when SUNG, its in harmonics.

Another explanation for the name Yehoshua is that it comes from the root ישע yod-shin-‘ayin, meaning "to deliver, save, or rescue". According to the Book of Numbers verse 13:16, the name of Joshua son of Nun was originally Hoshea` הוֹשֵעַ, and the name "Yehoshua`" יְהוֹשֻׁעַ is usually spelled the same but with a yod added at the beginning. "Hoshea`" certainly comes from the root ישע, "yasha", yod-shin-`ayin (in the Hif'il form the yod becomes a waw), and not from the word שוע shua` (Jewish Encyclopedia[14]) although ultimately both roots appear to be related.Jhikpghf

I suggest you find the ARAMAIC and try for an accurate translation to english. He was called Immanuel by his apostles, who were his friends and team and not the big deal made out of it today

The Hebrew Yeshua
vs. the Greek Jesus

from Shem-Tov's Hebrew Matthew

by Nehemia Gordon

http://www.hebrewyeshua.com/hebrew_yeshua_book.html

The issues over which Yeshua wrestled with the Pharisees are simply not understood by modern Christians; nor are his most important instructions followed by those who claim to be his disciples.

"Gordon places Yeshua into his Hebraic context and allows Yeshua's own words to sparkle within their original Semitic setting!"

The first time the name Jesus is used is in the New Testament.

The original manuscripts for the New Testament are written in Greek, not Hebrew or Aramaic.

From the Strong's Bible Concordance:

2424 Iesous {ee-ay-sooce'}

Meaning: Jesus = "Jehovah is salvation" 1) Joshua was the famous captain of the Israelites, Moses' successor 2) Jesus, son of Eliezer, one of the ancestors of Christ 3) Jesus, the Son of God, the Saviour of mankind, God incarnate 4) Jesus Barabbas was the captive robber whom the Jews begged Pilate to release instead of Christ 5) Jesus, surnamed Justus, a Jewish Christian, an associate with Paul in the preaching of the gospel

In the Old Testament the Messiah is called Immanuel. Below is also from the Strong's Bible Concordance:

6005 `Immanuw'el {im-maw-noo-ale'}

Meaning: Immanuel = "God with us" or "with us is God" 1) symbolic and prophetic name of the Messiah, the Christ, prophesying that He would be born of a virgin and would be 'God with us'

and the name includes Immanuel, see above. it does mean God with us, he was at god level. I am at god level too. does it matter?

Immanuel is the name given in the OT. as I said, the english version of the birth name is Joshua ben Joseph and who the hell cares 2000 years later. Why is all the arguing on so many forums over this. It is NOT HIS NAME NOW, at any rate. I call him Esu, and I call Michael of Nebadon "christ" at this time per his suggestion. I called him "Hatonn" from the Phoenix Journals prior to my learning he was the Michael himself returned.

You'd have to know ancient Hebrew to get the pronunciation right, the English version is close but you know how translations are.

ישוע

If memory serves me correctly, I believe "Jesus" means cursed or something to stay away from or something of the like. It's a Jew inside joke, really....since they made Christianity to begin with.
