While I'm Still "Young"
Well, LOP, I've been rolling something around in my head for a lonnnng time, and recent events in my personal life have kind of brought those thoughts to a head. Instead of boring you all within the back story, I'll just get to the point:
I need to get away. From people, from consumers, from the blind leading the blind. I need to do something for my soul. While I know this consumer-driven life will be waiting for me upon my return, a temporary hiatus would suffice (or so I'd like to think).
I'd like to backpack parts of the country - I live in Michigan, and we have a lot of National Forests in the area, and legally, I could stay at any given camp site for up to 2 weeks before I have to reestablish a new site somewhere in the same forest. I'm used to the winters here, and I'm knowledgeable to the flora and fauna of the area. Not saying I'd be completely roughing it (I would bring food and supplies, while packing a bit of saved cash).
People around me just don't understand my logic, so I figured I'd post my ramblings here to get some much needed feedback.
Thoughts?

RE: While I'm Still "Young"
Bummer, I was looking for some legitimate input on this.....
I'll stick to the Android OS thread in the future, I suppose.

Go. If you see yourself being able to backpack, then the rest is easy. And it will be good for your soul. I escaped for a while on a couple of occasions, got out of this madness completely. It was refreshing to say the least. I liken it to a hole being poked in the top of the juice box so that the juice pours smoothly out. My thoughts calmed and I was able to relax without having to try to relax. I got sucked back, but I know getting out is a viable option now. So, go-go-go.

Thanks for the time you put into your response. I really appreciate the thought and effort.
That's my mentality, in a nutshell. I figure, worst case scenario, at least I would still be in my home state - not going full-on "Into the Wild," but enough to find..... well, me.
I guess I'm sick of living for everyone else. I may as well try and get it out of my system now, while I can, than live with regret. This isn't a feeling I'm going to shake any time soon, seeing as how this feeling has been lurking in my subconscious for..... 10 years now?
Again, thank you for your input, and it will not go on deaf ears. Something's gotta give, and I'm not about to spend my whole life waiting to live.

What was your medicine, if you don't mind me asking? Where did you go? What did you do?

I found the only difficult thing to leave behind was/is family. If they're supportive, it would be much easier. If not, I don't think you can let that stop you. If you've been thinking about it for ten years, then you just have to go. Might just be a whole 'nother life waiting for you. At the very least, you'll be able to get out of the zoo and get a chance to think so you can get motivated to go back. Good luck with that. I like to hear of people escaping. :)

I went over to Asia and tried to blend in as best I could. I don't see myself backpacking, I like to have a base to get away to, so I just tried to go over and see if I could adjust; maybe see if it was a place I could live forever. It was easier than I would have ever imagined to adjust, so I spent my time wandering around with an open mind, enjoying the strangeness. Not knowing what to expect, I didn't plan properly before leaving. If I had, I might still be there.

Its not so much escaping, as it is finding myself. I have a comfortable life, but that's it: comfortable.
I can't help but think there is something much more...grandiose.... (if you will).
Family, on the other hand, is not such an issue. Its the other personal quandary in my life that is kind of holding my thought process on the whole idea.
Granted, its a completely reckless and selfish mindset to have..... but when you live your whole life for someone else..... time takes it toll..... and your only so young for so long.....
Bah. I don't know.

I'm sorry to hear that.... who's to say you can't go back?
Definitely a more concrete plan than I have in mind..... but I guess that's kind of the allure to it all, eh?

That's what I would consider it: recharging. Re-calibrating, if you will.
