Even on national land?

pretty sure i had a couple buddies that hiked on some trails out there and they said they needed to have one hanging on a tree at each of their campsites. it may have only been for state land though, not completely sure.

My friends do too.
I appreciate the sentiment..... but sometimes, you gotta do what you know is right for you.
Besides, at least in Michigan I only have Grey Wolves, Cougars, and black bears to worry about.....

Thank you for the input.
I'm fairly confident I would only need burn permits, but obviously, I have some inquiring to do at the local DNR station.

if you need to get away and are capable of it now then do it while you still can. if not you may only keep thinking back and wondering how it may have been without knowing for sure.

When he/she understands what it means to carry 2-3 weeks of WATER and food around on his/her back it will become a 3 day visit/camping issue...then back into the parked Yugo/1980's Ford Escort, back to mommy's basement. This won't happen for long. Very few know what long term comfortable healthy survival trips/existance means. It gets to be "survival" very quickly, even when it's starting out as fun. I wish him/her the greatest of luck though/and awesome times...sounds interesting to me, could be amazing depending.

I wasn't being a jerk...have at it, have fun. Just saying be very prepared before you get just far enough away to eliminate your suppiles...you have to be intelligent and ready for this sort of adventure. It can become "no joke" very quickly.

I say go for it and if you have financial responsibilities these need to be taken care of before or arranged for while your gone.Any children being the most important.
This sets up a much better karmic atmosphere for you then when one shuns their responsibilities.
Don't get bogged down explaining or looking for encouragement from othersas it's a waste of your time.
Have a wonderful ,safe adventure wherever it takes you.

Acutally, I'm renting a house; moved out from my mother's house a long time ago... Thanks for the concern, though.
Boiling water works pretty well, too. I live in Michigan.... there's water everywhere. So long as I make it a point to camp near a body of water, carrying water will be limited.
You seem rather enlightened in the area: please, do continue. I have experience, as well, and your condescending demeanor isn't really warranted.
Thanks for your input, though.

Of course! I'm renting a home atm, and no kids as of yet.... I kinda wanted to try this before financial & familial responsibilities kicked in.
Thank you for the kind sentiment!

RE: While I'm Still "Young"
OP,
If it's hard for you to make it now, it will be doubly hard for you to make it once you return from the wilderness.
I retired young, I had a plan and executed that plan.
You sound like you need a plan.

DinoDNA Wrote:Well, LOP, I've been rolling something around in my head for a lonnnng time, and recent events in my personal life have kind of brought those thoughts to a head. Instead of boring you all within the back story, I'll just get to the point:
I need to get away. From people, from consumers, from the blind leading the blind. I need to do something for my soul. While I know this consumer-driven life will be waiting for me upon my return, a temporary hiatus would suffice (or so I'd like to think).
I'd like to backpack parts of the country - I live in Michigan, and we have a lot of National Forests in the area, and legally, I could stay at any given camp site for up to 2 weeks before I have to reestablish a new site somewhere in the same forest. I'm used to the winters here, and I'm knowledgeable to the flora and fauna of the area. Not saying I'd be completely roughing it (I would bring food and supplies, while packing a bit of saved cash).
People around me just don't understand my logic, so I figured I'd post my ramblings here to get some much needed feedback.
Thoughts?
Do it OP. Do everything you can to grow and learn about yourself, mistakes and all, while you're young. Good god have fun! Learn! Get out of your comfort zone. And be smart about it. Well sometimes it doesn't always work out that way but that's okay too
I can't stress this enough.
Love
