Why Earth is a prison, not a school
I am having an ongoing discussion with a friend regarding this topic. He feels that the Earth is a school and we chose to come here to learn something, but that our memory is wiped before we arrive.

I asked a poll question today which was largely ignored. I asked that if you had chosen to come to this planet to learn a lesson, do you really feel like the life you have is the best vehicle for teaching you? I have yet to meet anyone who felt it was.

Here's the thing, though. It is impossible to learn anything without building on previous knowledge. Learning is a cumulative activity, not one isolated and divorced from all other knowledge. Since we come in here ignorant of previous lessons, Earth cannot possibly be a school or if it is, it sure is a shitty one.

Therefore, it makes more sense that Earth is either a test or a punishment. I lean towards the latter. Except this punishment comes wrapped in the idea that we're here due to our "failure" to grasp the needed lessons to move on.

I would like to hear from some of you. Do you feel that life is just a harsh school, or do you think we're really in prison?

I suppose I see it as a school. The school of life is the best school there is. Even better than the school of hard knocks.

You have to know the negative before understanding the positive...and vice versa. Yeah, it is a bit like hell sometimes, but true love makes it seem like heaven. Cliched, I realize, but I understand now that those negative times that I have had are helping me understand the positive I know now. You grow. Personally, I thought it was pure punishment before...but now that I have true love, I feel differently.

If I even made sense. chuckle

I can assure you that it is a punishment and you might ask me why are you so sure take it or leave it :

I have gone under a past life regression and the hypnotherapist tell me that i was a former dictator in one well know country and i was speaking his Country of birth language that is not my current language neither country .

So in short i was a behaving badly and i abuse power in my past life so i perfectly understand why i am living on this terrible planet call "Hurt".

The only way to get out of here without coming back ever is to become a good person and that mean to be tolerant toward other, to be honest, to not hurt other in any way, to learn the real truth call love, to be humble, to have a hearth instead of a rock.

The road is hard but the reward is that you will access a much more advanced planet without all the pain we see here.

Try this: It's a prison, but not a punishment. IOW, it is a trap that we have been lured into, like a wild animal is captured for the zoo. The animal did nothing to deserve being captured and imprisoned, but is held in prison for the amusement of its captors.

The best use of the animals time might be to figure out how to escape the prison; that becomes especially difficult when the animal was born in captivity and has lived there for many generations. A conscious animal might believe what it had been told for generations, and not only refuse to believe that it was in a prison, but refuse to believe that there could be anything outside the prison.

The Buddha's teaching in its original form seems to have been passing on the knowledge of our imprisonment and how to escape, rather than remaining trapped lifetime after lifetime with our memory wiped between lives. Escaping the wheel of reincarnation in this prison zoo. Non-attachment was just one of the tools. The goal was not to cease to exist, or meld with the Source, but to escape the prison/zoo.

My opinion..... 1. We come here alone. But yet our lives revolve around other's. 2. We live our lives alone except for those who impose themselves on us. 3. We will die alone. Oh yes, there may be family gathered round the bed, but then again.... Really? Depends on the cause of death or the situation, I suppose.... Anyway, I'm trying to say.... I think we chose to come here. Not necissarily as punishment... But maybe... What could possibly be learned from a baby dying in your arms. Or a Dog that suffers and nobody rescues them. The list goes on and on...

I think we chose to come here and because of free will, we fall victim to other people's f*cking IDIOCY and it ruins OUR lives.

So, my advice is... Disengage. that's right. Do not participate. Be you, be free and f*ck everyone else. because everyone only gives a shit about themselves.

Word.

Really, one can think whatever it takes to get them through it. That's why there's more than one genre of film, people have different wants, desires, tastes, etc. Some want more, some want less. Some like fun, others need sacrifice. If people weren't so in-your-face with their opinions, they could get away with thinking however they wanted. Yet, some people show-off and seek attention to know end and choose sides and fight, and all that does is make the man squeeze his hand on us a little tighter. That's the problem, to me. There isn't enough freedom, nor tolerance, to let everybody have their little bit fun. There's not enough money for everyone to have their wants. So, people fight to get by. They fight for what they want. And, if fighting all the time, they will gladly hop on the retard bus for an easier ride in life. So, many do.

It's pretty easy to look at society like its an ant farm. Then its fun. After that, most things are pretty great. The Earth is beautiful. Shitty things happen, but learning to understand and deal with those shitty things is pretty rewarding. Like an A+.

RE: Why Earth is a prison, not a school
My experience has been a prison, a school, and freedom. In that order. But getting thrown back into prison like in the military for awhile. That became school, and eventually freedom.

I think it is a cycle, even on a micro level -- even days can feel like this. Get to work tired in a bad mood and deal with jackasses. Make it through into the afternoon and learn something new. Off work and free from responsibility and go do something fun.

As far as the cosmic reincarnation cycle, I cannot see anything wrong with trying to make oneself worthy of ascending to something better in the hereafter. Perhaps the cycle in life is what prepares us or holds us for the next cycle. Certainly we have free will and can choose what we do and how we do it, what the content of our thoughts are. Even in a cell with chains and nothing, we are still ourselves and in command of our body and mind. If one believes and lives this way they may be imprisoned, but not a prisoner. Not free in a comparative sense, but free because we are what we think, do, say and feel, and freely choose such. With practice even under duress.

"The unexamined life is not worth living."--Socrates"
There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true."
