'Why am I here?' Batman 'killer' James Holmes asks

THE accused Batman killer James Holmes has been claiming he does not remember the shooting and that he has amnesia. New York's Daily News is reporting that Mr Holmes, 24, who allegedly killed 12 people and injured 58 at a screening of ''The Dark Knight Rises'' in Colorado, does not remember the incident. ''He claims he doesn't know why he's in jail,'' a jail staffer told the newspaper. ''He asked, 'why am I here?''' ''He needs to save his act for the jury because no one here is buying it,'' the worker said. ''Everyone is convinced he is faking it.'' Mr Holmes is also said to be complaining about the food he is receiving at the Arapahoe County Detention Centre. ''He's claiming his belly hurts him,'' the jail employee told the Daily News. ''He complained once that he didn't like the food ... the guy killed 12 people and he's upset that he's not getting a four-star meal?''

The paper reported that a typical breakfast would include sausages, while lunch is usually a sandwich. Mr Holmes is said to be barely eating at all. He is on 23-hour lockdown, only leaving his cell for one hour a day to get exercise. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama has made it clear he will not push for new gun laws in the wake of the Colorado massacre. Even as the issue of guns shifts to the forefront of the US presidential campaign after the Aurora movie massacre, the White House has made it clear that new gun legislation will not be on the political agenda this year. Instead, US President Barack Obama intends to focus on other ways to combat gun violence - a position not unlike that of his Republican rival Mitt Romney. Days after the mass shootings in Aurora, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Mr Obama still supports a ban on the sale of assault weapons, a restriction that expired in 2004. But he said: "There are things we can do short of legislation and short of gun laws that can reduce violence in our society."

Mr Carney's comments came the day after Mr Obama, in a speech to an African-American group in New Orleans, embraced some degree of additional restrictions on guns. With AP

Yeah but why bother with all that if you could just send in trained killers and leave somebody else holding the bag.

The story of the attack changed. First he entered the lobby, then he entered the back door, and a third version is somebody let somebody in the back door, and they both started shooting.
