you dont have to be employed to have health insurance, but the cost is very prohibitive. i think companies cut deals with insurance companies to get discounted rates..

The reason why it's tied to employment is to tie the employee to the employer. No matter how abusive.

The previous STANDARD was better.

It mandated the number of hospital beds per capita per county, and funded the construction of HOSPITALS.

If we extended medicare to Hill-Burton it'd be CHEAPER and BETTER than HMO.

Alternatively, we could have State Health insurance and Hill-Burton.

Rebates fo surpluses.

Thanks for the info...I'm in my 50's and don't remember people complaining about health care costs when I was a kid- usually just one parent worked and everyone was covered.
