Save the Children is out with its annual report on the state of the world’s mothers.

The organization’s President, Carolyn Miles, says the report ranked 165 countries, that Niger was the worst; Norway was the best. Niger is severely affected by a regional food crisis and replaces Afghanistan at the bottom of the list. But what about the US?

“The U.S. did a little better this year, moved up from 31 to 25 but there are still significant issues certainly, in the U.S.,” said Miles.

The report I heard the other day iirc said that virtually every mother in Nigeria is guaranteed to lose a child under the age of five. 2009 WHO stats say that 1 in 5 Nigerian children never reach the age of 5.
