RE: YOUR CHURCH - COME IN AND SAY A PRAYER..
The Gods are my guides; I shall not want.
Their counsel and friendship quicken my soul.
Right roads I walk for the sake of their names.
And though I should walk in the valley of darkness,
I shall not fear, for they are with me,
their help is my staff, their presence comforts me.
They prepare my table in the face of my foes
and fill my cup to the brim;
Their blessings and company I will enjoy
all days of my life and beyond.
The Aesir and Vanir will be my Gods
forever as long as I live.
Hey, y'all didn't specify.

RE: YOUR CHURCH - COME IN AND SAY A PRAYER..
Here is another website for you:
http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cd...in-Man.htm
"Question:
The bible (Genesis 1:26) states that man was created in "G‑d's image." What does this mean?
Response:
So much wisdom is crammed into those two words! Allow me to share just a bit of it:
The statement that we are created in the image of G‑d means that we were formed as a reflection of our Creator's attributes and characteristics. This cannot be taken to mean that we literally look, feel or think like G‑d does, because He has no form and is not limited in any way."

The USA
We're at a crossroads.
I'm praying we the people don't make a deal.
I sometimes wonder if our government already has.
I pray the most for the children of the world.
God LOVES them the most as he should.
I also pray for our soldiers
That they won't lose their lives nor their souls in this war.
Good ones. Anything else?
Is that how you actually pray? By starting it with "I pray"?
I was just wondering.
Nope that's just how I show my prayers on a message board.
I'm certainly not going to say to this messageboard,"Dear God".

Hey, y'all didn't specify.
The Aesir and Vanir are cognate to the sanskrit Asuras and Devas, and the persian Ahuras and Daevas.
Ultimately, as ancient vedic literature shows, these are all attributes and functions of the supreme God and not truly independent entities or beings.
The information about the ancient proto-germanic religion does not come from direct sources:
Here is one of the earliest accounts by an observer:
"In this temple, entirely decked out in gold, the people worship the statues of three gods in such wise that the mightiest of them, Thor, occupies a throne in the middle of the chamber; Wotan and Frikko have places on either side. The significance of these gods is as follows: Thor, they say, presides over the air, which governs the thunder and lightning, the winds and rains, fair weather and crops. The other, Wotan—that is, the Furious—carries on war and imparts to man strength against his enemies. The third is Frikko, who bestows peace and pleasure on mortals. His likeness, too, they fashion with an immense phallus."
- Gesta Hammaburgensis 26, Tschan's translation
These seem to represent the important aspects of life for that culture, and the areas which they most wanted the favor of God. Favorable weather was most important to the people, both on land and sea, while war and peace were at both sides of the weather. The weather could also represent the emotional weather, and thus favor either war (death) or peace (fertility), and so was in the middle.
The positioning could have also been used for the practice of divination, to see what the God wanted.
The understanding of most polytheistic religions by the priesthoods managing the practices was generally that there was an ultimate all pervading power, which had many expressed manifestations of will such as weather, war(death), and peace(fertility).
Again, the names of the God were not really names so much as references to attributes and connected to the areas that God controls!
Ultimately, the proto-germanic religion links back to the sanskrit religion, which we can see through the vedas which also held the view I described and explained clearly the oneness of the ultimate and only true power, of which Thor, Wodan, and Frikka, are just names.
I've listed other names of God in the pages prior from various religions.
Thank you so much for that beautiful prayer! I hope the information I've provided here hasn't offended you at all!
I think that all the religions are almost entirely compatible through this viable system and understanding.

That is an excellent one. It would even work if it causes the soldiers to go and break some banks or something.

Ok! I strongly agree with the first part of what you said. That God knows your beliefs and intentions, and the various names are all descriptive of the same God (if anyone is interested in finding out more about that check out the pages prior to this).
I wouldn't go so far as to say "you are God, in all his glory", since I don't think it is appropriate according to most religions to say something like that. We can represent the glory of God through glorifying God and also doing nice things as compared to nasty thing all for the glory of God alone.
I wouldn't say that the ocean is God, or the stars are God, or any of that, but rather that God encompasses all these things, sustains them, and animates them. Ultimately they are made from God, originated by God, and existing because of God.
They aren't God though, they are just things, nor are they any required parts of God, since they can cease to exist without harming God.
This is the difference between pantheism and panentheism.
pantheism is the belief that literally everything is God. While this is probably true in a sense, ultimately nothing is God but God, and those things can stop to exist and are under the authority of God.
panentheism is the belief that all is within God, encompassed by God. This is the belief system that most religions present.
So nothing is God but God alone who encompasses, creates, and sustains everything, and can destroy anything too.

RE: YOUR CHURCH - COME IN AND SAY A PRAYER..
I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread so far! Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas!
If you guys want to know something else a little interesting.
The Iranian people are more similar to the Nordic people in religion because of their preference for the Ahura faction (Aesir) over the Daevas or Vanir.
The divine between the early aryans was between those who were devoted to the Asura and those who were devoted to the Daevas. Really it was practically the same system but the Asuras were considered older than the Daevas.
It seems what might have happened was that the devotees to the Daevas pushed out those devoted to the Asuras and led them to move across much of the world.
Odin, Thor, and Frigg, the early triad of Norse religion belonged to the Aesir faction which is cognate to the Ahuras respected in Zoroastrianism.
Surprisingly, it was still a monotheistically justifiable system before reinterpreted by Christianity and those rediscovering it, though it is possible followers also misunderstood the earliest aryan principles which can be found in the earliest vedas and zoroastrian scriptures.
So yeah, there is a whole lot of fun stuff for those interested in history, religion, and mythology.
I take mythology pretty seriously, and don't try to discard the ancient past as just ridiculous tall tales. I think ancient people were pretty smart and understood things that are thought to be literal falsehood now as philosophical and poetic truth.
Persian and Nordic culture also has a strong tradition in poetry that is likely related to their aryan heritage and united culture.
It is kind of sad that there is trouble now between both, it is likely that the Iranians don't even know much about their shared culture with the west.

Matthew 7 >>
King James Version
1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
