The article mentions 'chinese' but I think 'Mongolian' is more accurate. Anyways the mongolian fleet that was on its way to conquer Japan was destroyed by a typhoon. I wonder if it was this tsunami instead.

(update: Mongolian empire ended 1368, Chinese is correct.)

I always heard it was the dynasty after Zheng He that ordered all travel stopped and all the ships burned.

WE KNOW THAT AFTER THE EMPEROR DIED HIS SUCCESSOR WAS INFLUENCED BY MANDARINS AND THE FLEET BURNED.

BUT WHY BURN IT.

IF SUBSEQUENT TO THE FLEETS JOURNEYS, GREAT DISASTERS HAPPENED, KINGDOMS FELL COMPLETELY AND WORD COMES OF A WHOLE FLEET DESTROYED, PERHAPS THEY THOUGHT THAT THEY HAD UPSET SOMEBODY AND BETTER GIVE UP THE FLEET BEFORE THEY TO GET DESTROYED.

Why aren't the visits to other countries recorded in those countrie's records? Apparently some are but if a 500 foot boat full of strange looking people landed in Egypt and Spain as claimed I think it would be a thing of legends.

the people of europe were barely out of the trees when this happened. chuckle

there may have been legends, but alot of legends are lost over time.

When the tsunami strikes New South Wales, huge boulders are carried on top of cliffs 32 metres high. Several junks are carried over sandbars far inland (Warrnambool; Wollongong where Chinese blue and white has been found in tsunami debris far inland). One of the wrecked treasure ships is impaled in a cliff at Moeraki, 45 degree bows up, and with a 45 degree list to starboard. Two burning junks are hurled into the cliff-face at Wakanui Beach, Ashburton, where their wreckage is buried deep beneath a Tsunami formed cliff, which also covers a stone built Chinese canal. The scene in New Zealand resembles a fleet of aircraft crashing simultaneously.

Thanks for that I will look into it.

There was a Chinese style village dug up in Canterbury and documented some years ago. No-one even had a theory about how it got there, but now maybe they do.

Three men have recently published a book detailing some ideas about the people who lived in NZ before the Maori turned up, Chinese, Norse [viking] Greek and Egyptians have been bandied about as some possibles.

There are some links between some things within Maori culture and Egyptian particularly Bes.
