Turkish hacker group RedHack has leaked some documents reportedly belonging to the Gendarmerie Intelligence Department that claimed that an anti-regime group in Syria with links to al-Qaeda was planning a car bomb attack and this might take place in Turkey.

Soldier detained over leak to RedHack of Reyhanlı bombing documents todayszaman.com/newsDetail_get... @YourAnonNews @ANon_Central #Anonymous @RT_com

A soldier has been detained as part of an investigation into the leak of classified military intelligence documents about tip-offs prior to the Reyhanlı bombings, which killed 51 and wounded dozens on May 11, which were later obtained by the hacker group RedHack (Kızıl Hackerlar) and revealed to the public this week, Turkey’s interior minister said on Thursday.

Interior Minister Muammer Güler said RedHack did not obtain the secret documents following a cyberattack on the computers of a local gendarme intelligence unit in the southern province of Hatay, as was reported, but with the help of a soldier from within the unit.

Deputy Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Hüseyin Çelik also confirmed the development and said one soldier was detained as part of an investigation into the leaks.

RedHack earlier in the week released a number of classified documents, which included information about the Reyhanlı bombings, suggesting that four vehicles with Syrian license plates had been readied by the radical al-Nusra Front to be sent to Hatay.

David L. Phillips argues for removing #PKK from the terrorist list in order to engage with the #PYD huff.to/17ZdXnh
Quote:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-l-ph..._hp_ref=tw 5/21/2013
The situation in Syria is urgent. Delisting the PKK would open the door to discussions with the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the PKK's affiliate in Syria, about joining the opposition to Syria's President Bashar al-Assad. It would also boost the peace process in Turkey by rewarding the PKK for its recent decision to cease hostilities and withdraw fighters from Turkish soil, maintaining momentum and setting the stage for negotiations aimed at a full final solution to Turkey's Kurdish question. Waiting would leverage the PKK's continued cooperation, but risks diminishing the impact of delisting on regional events. [...]

Engaging the PYD would be a big step towards forging consensus. Neither the United States nor the EU will act without Turkey's blessing. To this end, a deal could be made for the U.S. and EU to delist the PKK. In exchange, Ocalan would instruct the PYD to work with the opposition. The PYD has an effective fighting force on Turkey's border near Qamishli in the North and East of Syria. Engaging the PYD would establish a buffer between the war in Syria and Turkey, enhancing Turkey's security, and fostering a common vision for governance and regional cooperation when Assad is deposed.

PKK Kurdish deal with Turkey may worry Iran and Syria [written by Guney Yildiz]
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22471423 5/10/2013
Rebels of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have begun leaving south-eastern Turkey for their main bases in northern Iraq, but there is no talk of disarmament yet.

Instead, several top commanders of the PKK have said they will keep and even consolidate their forces.

So what will the thousands of well-trained militants in Qandil, Zap and other PKK-controlled areas of northern Iraq do, as the truce with Turkey holds?

This is probably the question the Iranian and Syrian governments have been asking since the imprisoned leader of the PKK, Abdullah Ocalan, who is negotiating a peace deal with Turkey, urged militants to withdraw from inside Turkey.

The group has two sister parties in Iran and Syria with their own armed wings: the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), which is fighting against Iran, and the Democratic Union Party (PYD), which holds the reins of power in Kurdish areas of Syria. Both have many fighters from Turkey's Kurdish areas.

"Iran's main concern is whether the PKK fighters will be joining forces with PJAK or not," says Mehdi Talati, a Swiss-based Iranian security analyst.

"PJAK, with its current strength, does not represent a strong challenge to the Iranian army, but it could pose a significant threat with reinforcements from the PKK."

Surprise

Only two years ago, Iran and Turkey were conducting joint military operations against the PKK's main bases in the Qandil Mountains.

Prof Nader Entessar of the University of South Alabama in the US argues Iran was taken by surprise by the peace process in Turkey: "The Iranian government doesn't appear to have foreseen this and developed a plan B for this situation yet; we may say that they were caught off-guard."

A ceasefire has been in place between the PKK's Iranian offshoot and Tehran since the autumn of 2011.

Although the PKK has shown its resilience in the face of joint military operations from Turkey and Iran, the group has sought to avoid fighting on two fronts whenever it can.

PKK executive leader Murat Karayilan has tried hard to establish a ceasefire between PJAK and Iran in order to focus on the fight against Turkey.

He recently reiterated that he would like to see the truce between PJAK and Iran continue.

However, Abdullah Ocalan has talked about the possibility of PKK militants joining forces with the PYD and PJAK.

"I don't believe that our guerrilla force will [cease being active] when we withdraw - there are Syria and Iran," he was quoted as saying in leaked meeting notes with three MPs of the pro-Kurdish BDP, who went to meet him at Imrali Prison where he is being held.

Prime Minister of KRG signs a petition to free leader of PKK Abdullah Ocalan. More on this: g.ua/WR3W #TwitterKurds

Iraqi Kurds Call For Turkey To Release Ocalan [written by Abdel Hamid Zebari]
http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/original...e-pkk.html 5/23/2013
Following the implementation of the ongoing peace process in Turkey, along with the arrival of the first members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region on May 14, Kurds in Iraq have begun to pressure Turkey to release PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who is serving a life sentence in the Turkish Imrali prison. Iraqi Kurds have launched a campaign to collect 5 million signatures (currently there are 60,000) and submit them to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Europe.

During recent years, the Iraqi Kurdistan region has witnessed numerous similar campaigns, but none of them gained the support of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq and of Kurdish political leaders, except for this campaign, which was signed on to by high-level figures in the KRG and its parliament.

The most prominent signatories of this campaign are KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani — who is also vice-president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) headed by Iraqi Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani — as well as the president of the KRG parliament, Arslan Baez, a senior leader in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) headed by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. Furthermore, 90 MPs from the KRG parliament and a number of provincial government ministers signed the petition.

Syria denies rebels' control over central prison of Aleppo city news.xinhuanet.com/english/world/...
Quote:http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/world/...756015.htm 5/23/2013
A Syrian military source denied media reports that the rebels had stormed the central prison of the northern city of Aleppo, saying that the rebels only shelled the prison with mortars that led to the killing of a number of prisoners.

The source, whose remarks were carried by the state-TV on Thursday, said the "terrorists" couldn't storm the prison, adding that many of the prisoners were also injured during the rebels' mortar attack.

The Western-backed rebels have been trying over the past month to storm the prison in what appeared to be a bid to free some of their comrades.
