whay they do is important, but WHY THEY ARE NOT ACTING is the trajedy here !! im no scientist or profit, but i got some common sense... IF THERES A CASTASTROPHY LOOMING AND A WINDOW EXISTS .... GET ON IT , especially right now , look at the earthquakes happening all around there.
It has been a year. I think we need to seriously ask why they haven't done anything and what that really means. I don't buy it's all about money and politics because this is life/death for a large chunk of the global population and I know most politicians are corrupt but even they still have kids, grandkids, families, friends and not all are totally evil (just a bit greedy). So why would so many keep a lid on it? And is Wyden in trouble for speaking out? And will msm be forced to cover the story now? I wonder if we'll find out tomorrow that Wyden was having an affair with a Japanese transvestite who lied to him about the dangers or some other nonsense to cause him to retract his statement and/or just stop talking about it? Kwim?
What do they know that they wouldn't be freaking out over this? What freaks them out more than a radioactive northern hemisphere?

There should be an international requirement to transition all nuclear reactors to run on thorium. http://www.popsci.com/technology/article...five-years
TEPCO should be required by the international community to build a containment structure around the reactor buildings and fuel pools. Provide a back-up system for cooling the spent fuel pools that will withstand another earthquake. Then build a dome to reduce radionuclide emissions. Then begin diss-assembly and cleanup.
It should be a very high priority and a multinational effort should have begun Mar. 12 2011 to get this situation under control, contained, dismantled, and cleaned up.
The USSR displayed a much more responsible approach to Chernobly and immediately began large scale and permanent efforts at containment. And didn't stop until the failed reactor was entombed in a concrete dome.
The problem with the West is that the very least amount of resources, precautions, and clean up efforts are put into their disasters. Because it all comes out of profit and the bottom line, and the environment and people are the very least of their concerns or cares.
--------
It doesn't surprise me that the senator who is pushing this issue is Wyden.
Ron Wyden is one of the best senators Oregon has ever had, imo.
Wyden was the first politician in Congress to stand against the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) (in the House) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) (in the Senate) -- wiki
voted against the authorization of the military force in Iraq in 2002
voted against renewal of the Patriot Act.
While not perfect, he is one of the very few politicians that I have some respect and admiration of.

If anything this shows us all that most countries (if not all, perhaps some have been objecting but those stories were buried) are playing for the same team. A team that doesn't care about the environmental damage, the dead humans and dead animals, the destruction of so much.
Perhaps they have tried to stop it but there's nothing they can do so they just try to keep it out of the news?
Or nothing they're willing to admit they could do to stop it because it would expose how advanced that black ops projects really are compared to modern tech?

Well at least someone here gets the insanity of running our current uranium reactors vs the sane choice of running liquid thorium reactors. I think it will have to happen whether it is as profitable as uranium or not. Fuku will at least guarantee that

God over exaggeration still runs rampant. my boss just got back from Japan a few months ago he is fine. Now if you are exposed to it day in and day out that might be different, but just going there for a bit is not what you say or lots more would already be dead. Does anyone still think before they open their mouths anymore?

I was kidding about the thorium.
Pebble bed is a lot safer than conventional too, and it's proven.
Understand I was anti-nuclear before I was pro-nuclear.
We need nuclear reactors in order to dispose of the waste that was created by the nuclear power and weapons industries.
We will likely have working controlled fusion as well pretty soon, which would make thorium, pebble bed and breeder reactors obsolete, but breeder reactors are the best way to dispose of nuclear waste.
Spent fuel rods are only 3% spent. Convert them for use in pebble bed reactors, we have a lot of use left.
And the same technology can be used to transmutate alpha particle emmitters into less dangerous isotopes.
Either the agenda is to scare everybody away from high technology, high energy flux density power, or it's genocide, or just really dumb petty "If I do something I will own it" politics from the Nerobama administration.
Nobody wants to step in and own it.
But TPTB do like to spread uranium all over the place (in wars) so genocide is there too.

As always LP your ability to dispel BS with logic and positivity is an inspiration! I have not heard about pebble beds but sounds interesting. As far as being pro nuclear, well let's just say I have come to the realization that like it or not nuclear has vast amounts of generating capability when compared to the other "known" energy producing technologies.
It's just the fact that there is one way to do it safely and efficiently, and then there is the way we are doing it now. That is what gets me all riled. And if it was a natural evolution of technology I would say the ol' "it is what it is" except that we know that at the inception of nuclear tech we could have gone the safe clean efficient way. But we figured our current model was easy and profitable so f*ck safety and the environment there is money to be had.
That is my spin on this whole deal but who am I to say, I am just some dude on the internetz
