Here's a short partial version of why: The lung cancer epidemic started in the 1950s, around ten years after the beginning of atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. People had smoked for many hundreds of years before that without getting lung cancer; the actual culprit was and is breathing in radioactive particles of Uranium and Plutonium that lodge in the lungs and continuously emit alpha particles. The governments needed something to blame, so they picked the only thing that people regularly breathed in, tobacco. That story worked for a while until too many started to wonder why just as many non-smokers got lung cancer as smokers, at which point they started the myth about second-hand smoke.

The same fertilizers have been used for growing tobacco for the past 200 years, and the same curing methods with few exceptions. Isn't it curious that of all of the really nasty chemicals that the government allows in our food and water, the one single item that is demonized is a simple herb that was the most sacred herb for all of the native peoples of the Americas?

The label on alcohol should say that it has been proven to cause cirrhosis of the liver, brain damage, birth defects and at least a hundred other serious problems. The government does not give a rat's ass about your health, they are still busy covering their asses for polluting our entire atmosphere with carcinogenic radioactive pollution.

I'm sorry but cancer isn't the only thing that smoking causes in most people.
Try Emphysema, heart desease, nasty looking skin, and high blood pressure just to name a few.

Drinking a shot of booze or a glass of wine or a couple of beers a day has been proven to increase your life expectancy.

Also, studies have shown that a casual pipe or cigar smoker, one that smokes maybe a couple of times a week up to once or twice a day tends to live longer too.
BTW, this has never been proven to be true with cigerettes.

Its the addict that dies early from the vice. to much of anything will kill you.

Yep, this.

Strange how they will bring up the minute amount of radiation that might find itself into tobbacco.. and then neglect to have radiation monitors at the same density as rain gauges, wind gauges, and temperature, isn't that weird because they haven't can make pretty much any claim about radiation they want and leave out the hour by hour, day by day, radiation load around the USA and the World (for that matter) ... But we also know that you can't exactly buy a gieger counter at Walmart but you can buy all sorts of 'weather' monitors now. 65 years (66 in a two weeks from now) since the first A-bomb and we still don't have sensor density monitoring of radiation as we do the weather.
