If I remember correctly the Milky Way is about 400,000 light years across, and we are pretty near the edge. So 200,000 years give or take.

Of course it may already be exploded for all we know. doomed

Isn't the theory that there is a black hole at the center of galaxies? If that is the case, wouldn't it be more of an implosion? That would equally suck. Suck, get it? Oh, nvm... chuckle

G1.9+3.0 was a supernova explosion very near our galactic center. It took approx 26,000 yrs for it to be seen by us a few yrs ago.

It was an interesting announcement when NASA made it. Jhikpghf

It's where this image first came from. Along with another I can't find on the web, but saved. I'll have to do that one in another post.

The theory that nothing travels faster than the speed of light is just a theory.

If the center of the galaxy explodes, all bets are off. Maybe we will learn of it a long time from now. Or maybe there will be repercussions that propagate faster than light.

Turns out I didn't remember correctly. chuckle

Google says a 100 to a 120 thousand. So that cuts the heads up down to 50 to 60 thousand years.

And that's why I DO NOT believe in the Big Bang theory !

Even though I am an Agnostic , I feel the theory to be totally impractical and unworkable . According to science , NOTHING travels faster than light . It takes millions of light years for the light of a Super Nova in our Galaxy to reach us here on Earth . How is it then possible for the entire UNIVERSE to be made within seconds ? The Universe is hundreds of Billions of Light Years across , so at best , it would take hundreds of Billions of seconds to form , even if light somehow turns to matter .
