MSMs - against their bias and manipulation - have to maintain a basic level of credibility. If they would predict the doom and it wouldn't happen they'd lose their mainstream audience.

Infowars for instance don't even try to apologize or excuse themselves for their failed paranoid prediction; their audience just doesn't care about credibility.

I'm highly skeptical about MSMs and always compare different source to make my mind about anything relevant...

... but buying into "alternative" media alone is a highway to lunacy. A vast majority of the crap posted on alt-media aren’t conspiracy theories, but either lunatic prophecies or hyper-partisan spins.
