NORFOLK — Mitt Romney has selected Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate in the presidential race and will make the long-awaited announcement here Saturday morning.

Romney’s campaign told supporters at about 7 a.m. via an iPhone app that the seven-term congressman would be the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Romney is trying to appeal to the teabagger base by selecting this guy, but his views are so far outside the mainstream that independents will be leaving the GOP ticket in droves now.

Romney keeps on making favors to Dems.

Obama himself has already attacked Romney for wanting to "turn Medicare into a voucher program," a reference to Ryan's original proposal for cutting down Medicare and Medicaid. Reps lost NY26 for the first time since the Civil War, precisely because of the unpopularity of Ryan's plan. And now Mitt Romney has tapped him to be VP. f*cking brilliant.

As Romney said: "I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there." Oh really?

The entrenchment of the two party system makes third party candidates pretty much null and void.

If they are uber rich and can finance their whole campaign, they might have a shot, but most people with the means to do it, don't want to deal with the hassle.

Romney mistakenly introduced Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan on Saturday as the next president of the United States. Ryan, of course, has been tapped to serve as Romney's vice presidential nominee.

It was the first time they appeared together as the Republican presidential ticket.

A sheepish Romney puts arms around Ryan and clarified his mistake before Ryan took the microphone.

Romney says that he makes a mistake every once in a while. But he says he didn't make a mistake with his selection of Ryan.
